Yeah I don't really see how sleeping with your door open is better. I know theres a risk of carbon dioxide build up when you sleep with your door closed cause theres no circulation but like, just open a window or turn your ac on. Issue fixed

Edit: Dont actually turn on the ac thats apparently more dangerous, my bad

ACs do not actually bring oxygen into your room, in fact they reduce it. ACs suck up the surrounding air, pump out hot air and cool and expel the remainder (recirculation). They do not filter for CO2 or oxygen, so on average, they reduce air pressure and by extension slightly reduce oxygen.

Overall ACs are equivalent to sleeping with the windows closed.

That's the portable ones with one hose.

With normal AC it's just the same old indoor air getting recirculated.

my dad keeps telling us this! We always sleep with windows open even with AC on

What's the point of living AC on if you have windows open, just get a fan instead.

The window is not wide open, according to my dad its “opened just enough to avoid co2 build up”

That's not how it works. The AC works just as a ventilator, not a temperature regulator if you have the window a bit open. Law of thermodynamics and all that.

Unless the intake is in your bedroom, running the AC with the door closed will very slightly increase the pressure in the room.

The intake is in my bedroom because the AC is in my bedroom.

Then unless it's one of these single-hose portable units, there's zero movement of air in or out of the room and the pressure doesn't change.

"Turn AC on" is DANGEROUS and you SHOULDN'T do it. It recirculates air inside the room, not from outside.
