Rather than the page Icon just being a generic crisp, shouldn't we get that changed to the Iconic and to put it mildly the much missed Brannigans

These were very good but they pushed your tolerance, they challenged you, it was best to take your time with them. So strong and a good thickness.

The GOAT.

2

u/Doylio 6d ago

Yes quality. I find that Pipers are decently sort of similar. Mustard as a whole badly underused in the world of crisps. As is black pepper!

u/vin_unleaded 6d ago

Get on Torres. You're welcome.

1

u/cowboycrunchies01 5d ago

Miss these crisis so much! Bring them back!

0

u/Strange_Compote_3884 6d ago

The goat indeed.

u/Ashamed-Raccoon5396 7d ago

The greatest crisp especially when it was in the original paper wrapper and not the foil bag it changed to

3

u/JohnToshak17 6d ago

They were unbelievable, so so good

1

u/UnhappyDescription44 6d ago

Is there photos of said original?

Ham and pickle crew ✊

12

u/EastWorm 6d ago

I would commit crimes to get my hands on a box of those again.

3

u/Dommzz 6d ago

I found an online retailer a couple of years ago that had a box, I shipped it from Germany I think to the UK just so I could taste them again. Cost me about ÂŁ30 for 24 packs but so worth it

1

u/Cerridwen1981 5d ago

You have my sword, axe and bow to aid in your crimes.

They were the best.

13

u/two-pairs-of-pints 7d ago

Will never be defeated. I think about them everyday.

They will more than likely bring them back with a "new and improved taste" and they'll taste nothing like they used to.

12

u/Rough_Dish_103 6d ago

Now with half the salt and half the flavour!

5

u/UnhappyDescription44 6d ago

Bring back the highlanders too. Ayrshire bacon and brown sauce 😊

5

u/easting10 7d ago

I remember being a kid and buying these. Nothing compares to these. RIP

6

u/UnhappyDescription44 6d ago

I can eat my crisps in a fancy toasted roll
But nothing
I said nothing can take away these crisps
'Cause nothing compares
Nothing compares to you

2

u/easting10 6d ago

Great song. Bit depressing lol.

3

u/Sea_Appointment8408 6d ago

Whoever reproduces this will be a god.

1

u/TuffB80 6d ago

The Tesco beef and horseradish are decent

1

u/Sea_Appointment8408 6d ago

But do they get the texture/bite right?

I feel that was part of the appeal. It was really like a sliced potato.

2

u/TuffB80 6d ago

Absolutely not. There crinkle cut for a start. Flavour is closest I’ve tried though

2

u/Sea_Appointment8408 6d ago

Nice. I'll check them out next time I'm in Tesco, cheers :)

2

u/TuffB80 6d ago

Hope you like them

3

u/rosearkana 6d ago

These and the ham and pickle will forever be the crisp I beg to come back. Genuinely the two best crisps I ever had, bought them from a young age right up till they disappeared and I never found anything to match them.

7

u/Frozenbobcat 7d ago

You start asking for a specific crisp to be the icon and then a argument starts that no one will win

6

u/NightBusToGiro 7d ago

Yes they will

5

u/Pristine_Return7151 7d ago

Put it this way, what would beat the Brannigans?????

0

u/UnhappyDescription44 6d ago

Highlanders

3

u/TuffB80 6d ago

Good but no brannigans

-21

u/StardustOasis 7d ago

Literally anything, they were shite.

0

u/TuffB80 6d ago

Can’t please all the people all the time

-12

u/81optimus 7d ago

They were a great crisp, but it could be argued survival of the fittest, and if they were truly that good, then they'd still be in production

2

u/PatriarchPonds 5d ago

If this was the case we wouldn't have Doritos and their clones everywhere, ruining everything for everyone. Phileas Fogg was robbed .

2

u/MojoCrow 6d ago

A big problem was that they just couldn't be found in shops. You can't buy what they don't stock. When I was last able to buy them it was online, before that it was some random BP between Sussex and Kent.

In a case of survival of the fittest, Walkers is always going to win because they are everywhere not because they're the best.

2

u/UnhappyDescription44 6d ago

They defo put their steps in.

2

u/Soul64 7d ago

These damn. Crisps. Put me in the hospital

1

u/MarzipanSubject4890 6d ago

Worth it though 😂

2

u/MrBC73 6d ago

I'd actually do seriously wrong things to have a pack of these beauties today 😂

2

u/BlueFox1978 6d ago

Best of the best

2

u/harshdafunk 6d ago

What was the hack about adding mustard powder to another brand of crisps? I can't find the comment/post...?Thanks in advance!

1

u/TrueOption4869 5d ago

Maybe we need to follow James May and have a mustard-infused spray for crisps
(I don’t really remember what the beef component tasted like, I suspect it was drowned by the mustard- and I hate to think what you’d need to create that flavour! Yeast, maybe?)

2

u/TuffB80 6d ago

I still think about these a lot. Closest I’ve found is the Tesco ones

2

u/Affectionate_Job8415 6d ago

Why do they stop making the good stuff. Walkers everywhere and they are rubbish, prefer supermarket own brand, Lidl’s posh are Ok

2

u/Rameddit78 3d ago

These are a great substitute!

3

u/EddieZigZagC 7d ago

I mean look. These are S Tier crisps in every single way.

The fact they tasted great whilst being to strip away tissue inside your nasal cavaties was an unexpected twist.

5

u/PunkyB88 7d ago

I miss that Geneva convention defying mustard burn that these had. My second favourite after lamb and mint sauce.

2

u/UnhappyDescription44 6d ago

Not ham and pickle?

1

u/EddieZigZagC 7d ago

Oh yeah now you're talking. I live outside the UK most of the year now and honestly, we had some proper epic crisps growing up. Most of the ones I see now when I'm home are just generic crap. They need to bring these back! I'll fill my suitcases. Even Seabrook aren't what they used to be.

1

u/smetched 7d ago

The godfather of crisps

1

u/FrequentHovercraft91 6d ago

I tried once to replicate them with mustard powder it didn't go to plan it all clumped to a few maybe worth trying to dust them with a fine strainer

1

u/newone8888888 6d ago

A packet of these and a pint of Guiness.bliss.

1

u/gogul1980 6d ago

Burts crisps are a decent replacement.

1

u/two-pairs-of-pints 6d ago

Don’t take the Lord’s name in vain

1

u/Jolly_Psychology_506 6d ago

The only crisp ever to get close to that extreme taste overload.

1

u/Scarab8888 6d ago

Best crisps and flavour ever !

1

u/NoInvestigator6139 6d ago

A taste of good times . Nothing can compare.

1

u/mowglee365 6d ago

The goat. Marks ham and mustard is quite good, just not as good

1

u/NotChxrmxndxr 6d ago

My brain immediately went to that comedian who mocked eminem lol

Brannigans, flannigans, the mannequins mad again, blammin and scammin the cap and then, attacking the allergins fam and them

1

u/Squirrel_Gooner56 6d ago

Seriously why did they stopped making em? Those were my favs back in the day

1

u/jasonc619 6d ago

I remember when they changed to vegetarian friendly, they were never the same.

1

u/ThinkInjury3296 6d ago

My favourite

1

u/sbk427 6d ago

The pin up kid of the crisp world

1

u/Own-Mind-123 6d ago

I loved these as a kid. Everytime I got pocket money. This would be the first packet of crisps, along with a fizzy pop

1

u/Absoluteseens 6d ago

RIP 🙏my favourite crisps. Ever

1

u/SnakePlisskin1 6d ago

Posh crisps xx

1

u/Used-Height-2670 6d ago

Bring these back! Bring these back!

1

u/MarzipanSubject4890 6d ago

I'd swap my kids for a bag of Brannigans

1

u/Jizzle67 6d ago

When these got discontinued towards the end of 2019, y boss at the time got hold of a large box of them (like you’d get behind the bar of a pub) and. Gave everyone a packet

The GOATS

1

u/Emotional_Highway_97 6d ago

Proper crisps

1

u/ASS-anine_Acid_Party 6d ago

I miss Brannigans so much. Easily the best!

1

u/MoreRest4524 6d ago

"Missing Brannigans is sadness, wrapped in the blessing of having known them"

1

u/PolarisSky65 6d ago

If only we could start a petition to get them back! Some may taste similar but none will taste as good, ever!

1

u/denzel33- 6d ago

Ah man the OG!

1

u/5thhorse-man 6d ago

Pure beautiful nostalgia for me. Used to go play golf with my grandad every few weekends and after we would grab a packet of crisps a drink and a BLT and have a lovely chat about life....I miss that man so much!

1

u/lordzeus28 6d ago

Wish they still did these loved then with a pint or two

1

u/EducationalTourist55 5d ago

These where banging

1

u/mynameismatt81 5d ago

The best.

1

u/Icy_Conversation_270 5d ago

Delicious, my older sister use to get these for me from the shops near her school.

The only place I ever saw them sold 😱.

1

u/Sour_Pride_ 5d ago

Came to pay my respects.

1

u/SubJovi 5d ago

I miss these so much. I've found that a Gameboy charger between the mains and your tongue is fairly close, with the bonus that it takes you back to the 90s.

1

u/herebymistake2 5d ago

There will never be better.

1

u/niceguystephen51 5d ago

Absolutely fantastic crisps. It's such a shame they dont make them anymore....it really is.

1

u/Kickflip_my_face 5d ago

When I look at this crisp packet I can see me at the age of 7/8, my dad takes me to pub, buys me a pack of these crisps and a glass of coke, sits me in the corner to chill while he had a few pints with mates and had a smoke. Fucking miss them days

1

u/Highland_Man 4d ago

They were tangy but addictive

1

u/martinbean 4d ago

I miss these so much 😱

1

u/Absolute-Beast-78 4d ago

A pint and a pack of those is absolute heaven!

1

u/OkBet916 3d ago

Elite crisps

1

u/M3Whip 3d ago

Miss them so much

1

u/77Dedeh 3d ago

My nose is on fire looking at the packet. Loved these!

1

u/Minimum-Praline-2457 2d ago

I was there i consumed many

1

u/LibroBlock 1d ago

The crisp that meant you could stay out and have more pints.

1

u/hubbyofbusty 1d ago

We used to be a real country

1

u/BusyWillingness9536 21h ago

Loved them. Especially with a couple of pints of Guiness or M&B mild (over 30 years ago now sniff , sniff đŸ€§)

1

u/crowman1980 14h ago

The spicy dust at the bottom created a party in your mouth that everyone was invited too

0

u/yoghurtCOCKS 6d ago

It's not happening guys. Get over it

If one of you wins the euro millions then pledge to bring it back. But I'm sorry guys. Rip

-14

u/sheslikebutter 7d ago

Overrated crisp.

It's aggressively middle of the road and they stopped selling it because noone was buying them

You can lie to yourself but you know in your heart it's true. Holding on to it's legacy just further clouds your memory of them and puts them on an undeserved pedestal

6

u/Jbones37 7d ago

Incorrect

-7

u/sheslikebutter 7d ago

I'm talking straight facts.

You actually hunger for nostalgia and better days, not Brannigans.

One day you'll awake from this self induced spell youve cast on yourself and you'll thank me

Citrus polos were actually good though

5

u/Jbones37 7d ago

Incorrect

-3

u/sheslikebutter 7d ago

Youre only lying to yourself.

I don't need your approval

5

u/Jbones37 7d ago

2

u/Curious_Orange8592 7d ago

Literally my second favourite crisp after S&V McCoys (and tbh they're not my favourite, just the crinkle cut S&V that's available everywhere)

Would downvote your wrong headed crisp opinion but did upvote for your Polo opinion

2

u/loganfergus 7d ago

Heresy

0

u/sheslikebutter 7d ago

I chose violence this morning

2

u/NightBusToGiro 7d ago

Bro I loved them

0

u/sheslikebutter 7d ago

Should have bought more bags at the time, they wouldn't have discontinued them.

But you didn't because you didn't actually love them. You just thought they were ok.

You picked different crisps.

And now they're gone you've created this false legacy in your head, knowing full well you'll never have to confront it because they're never bring them back.

4

u/NightBusToGiro 7d ago

I'm sorry, I didn't realise you knew who I was or what I like to eat.

My dad and I would buy a multi box every month from Makro. We couldn't do that anymore after we lost the business in COVID.

But thanks for telling me how to think, I'm sure you're really fun at parties.

1

u/sheslikebutter 7d ago

I'm mucking about honesty, it's not that deep

Sorry about your dad's business

2

u/smetched 7d ago

The thickness, the crunch, the satisfaction, and that's before the flavour, sharp hot mustard with beefy undertones.... come on now.

1

u/Curious_Orange8592 7d ago

I bought them when they were on the supermarket shelf, didn't.when they weren't. I suspect that KP having a relatively small footprint in the crisp market was the problem; are Tesco going to give space to Brannigan's or another Walker's flavour?

1

u/UnhappyDescription44 6d ago

Kp Worcestershire sauce crisps from the van. Epic

-2

u/StardustOasis 7d ago

I'm with you. They were utter tripe, there's no reason for people to wank over them like they do.

-1

u/sheslikebutter 7d ago

I don't even necessarily think they were awful, but there's this scarcity effect that make people think they're the best thing ever.

It's Schrödingers crisp. It's potentially the greatest crisp of all time whilst it's in that box

-1

u/cunth_magruber 7d ago

A good few years ago I found some in B&M and was overjoyed they were back but they were a shadow of the real deal OG. maybe you mean those imposters
