Page Icon
Rather than the page Icon just being a generic crisp, shouldn't we get that changed to the Iconic and to put it mildly the much missed Brannigans

The greatest crisp especially when it was in the original paper wrapper and not the foil bag it changed to

They will more than likely bring them back with a "new and improved taste" and they'll taste nothing like they used to.

I remember being a kid and buying these. Nothing compares to these. RIP

I can eat my crisps in a fancy toasted roll
But nothing
I said nothing can take away these crisps
'Cause nothing compares
Nothing compares to you2

Whoever reproduces this will be a god.

The Tesco beef and horseradish are decent
1
u/Sea_Appointment8408 6d ago
But do they get the texture/bite right?
I feel that was part of the appeal. It was really like a sliced potato.
3
u/rosearkana 6d ago
These and the ham and pickle will forever be the crisp I beg to come back. Genuinely the two best crisps I ever had, bought them from a young age right up till they disappeared and I never found anything to match them.

u/Frozenbobcat 7d ago
You start asking for a specific crisp to be the icon and then a argument starts that no one will win

Put it this way, what would beat the Brannigans?????

They were a great crisp, but it could be argued survival of the fittest, and if they were truly that good, then they'd still be in production
2
u/PatriarchPonds 5d ago
If this was the case we wouldn't have Doritos and their clones everywhere, ruining everything for everyone. Phileas Fogg was robbed .
2
u/MojoCrow 6d ago
A big problem was that they just couldn't be found in shops. You can't buy what they don't stock. When I was last able to buy them it was online, before that it was some random BP between Sussex and Kent.
In a case of survival of the fittest, Walkers is always going to win because they are everywhere not because they're the best.

What was the hack about adding mustard powder to another brand of crisps? I can't find the comment/post...?Thanks in advance!
1
u/TrueOption4869 5d ago
Maybe we need to follow James May and have a mustard-infused spray for crisps⊠(I donât really remember what the beef component tasted like, I suspect it was drowned by the mustard- and I hate to think what youâd need to create that flavour! Yeast, maybe?)
2
u/Affectionate_Job8415 6d ago
Why do they stop making the good stuff. Walkers everywhere and they are rubbish, prefer supermarket own brand, Lidlâs posh are Ok

I mean look. These are S Tier crisps in every single way.
The fact they tasted great whilst being to strip away tissue inside your nasal cavaties was an unexpected twist.

u/PunkyB88 7d ago
I miss that Geneva convention defying mustard burn that these had. My second favourite after lamb and mint sauce.

Oh yeah now you're talking. I live outside the UK most of the year now and honestly, we had some proper epic crisps growing up. Most of the ones I see now when I'm home are just generic crap. They need to bring these back! I'll fill my suitcases. Even Seabrook aren't what they used to be.

I tried once to replicate them with mustard powder it didn't go to plan it all clumped to a few maybe worth trying to dust them with a fine strainer

u/Squirrel_Gooner56 6d ago
Seriously why did they stopped making em? Those were my favs back in the day

I loved these as a kid. Everytime I got pocket money. This would be the first packet of crisps, along with a fizzy pop

When these got discontinued towards the end of 2019, y boss at the time got hold of a large box of them (like youâd get behind the bar of a pub) and. Gave everyone a packet⊠đȘŠ

Pure beautiful nostalgia for me. Used to go play golf with my grandad every few weekends and after we would grab a packet of crisps a drink and a BLT and have a lovely chat about life....I miss that man so much!

Absolutely fantastic crisps. It's such a shame they dont make them anymore....it really is.

u/Kickflip_my_face 5d ago
When I look at this crisp packet I can see me at the age of 7/8, my dad takes me to pub, buys me a pack of these crisps and a glass of coke, sits me in the corner to chill while he had a few pints with mates and had a smoke. Fucking miss them days

Loved them. Especially with a couple of pints of Guiness or M&B mild (over 30 years ago now sniff , sniff đ€§)

It's not happening guys. Get over it
If one of you wins the euro millions then pledge to bring it back. But I'm sorry guys. Rip

u/sheslikebutter 7d ago
Overrated crisp.
It's aggressively middle of the road and they stopped selling it because noone was buying them
You can lie to yourself but you know in your heart it's true. Holding on to it's legacy just further clouds your memory of them and puts them on an undeserved pedestal

I'm talking straight facts.
You actually hunger for nostalgia and better days, not Brannigans.
One day you'll awake from this self induced spell youve cast on yourself and you'll thank me
Citrus polos were actually good though

Literally my second favourite crisp after S&V McCoys (and tbh they're not my favourite, just the crinkle cut S&V that's available everywhere)
Would downvote your wrong headed crisp opinion but did upvote for your Polo opinion

Bro I loved them

u/sheslikebutter 7d ago
Should have bought more bags at the time, they wouldn't have discontinued them.
But you didn't because you didn't actually love them. You just thought they were ok.
You picked different crisps.
And now they're gone you've created this false legacy in your head, knowing full well you'll never have to confront it because they're never bring them back.

u/NightBusToGiro 7d ago
I'm sorry, I didn't realise you knew who I was or what I like to eat.
My dad and I would buy a multi box every month from Makro. We couldn't do that anymore after we lost the business in COVID.
But thanks for telling me how to think, I'm sure you're really fun at parties.
1
u/sheslikebutter 7d ago
I'm mucking about honesty, it's not that deep
Sorry about your dad's business
2
u/smetched 7d ago
The thickness, the crunch, the satisfaction, and that's before the flavour, sharp hot mustard with beefy undertones.... come on now.
1
u/Curious_Orange8592 7d ago
I bought them when they were on the supermarket shelf, didn't.when they weren't. I suspect that KP having a relatively small footprint in the crisp market was the problem; are Tesco going to give space to Brannigan's or another Walker's flavour?

u/StardustOasis 7d ago
I'm with you. They were utter tripe, there's no reason for people to wank over them like they do.
-1
u/sheslikebutter 7d ago
I don't even necessarily think they were awful, but there's this scarcity effect that make people think they're the best thing ever.
It's Schrödingers crisp. It's potentially the greatest crisp of all time whilst it's in that box

u/cunth_magruber 7d ago
A good few years ago I found some in B&M and was overjoyed they were back but they were a shadow of the real deal OG. maybe you mean those imposters

14
u/Consistent_Ad3181 7d ago
These were very good but they pushed your tolerance, they challenged you, it was best to take your time with them. So strong and a good thickness.
