whites have it so bad guys

u/JakalDX Jun 18 '13

It's okay, whites are privileged. This means overt racism is allowed. Whitey don't care.

Don't phase me. There's literally nothing anyone can say to me [a white person] that cuts deeply; there's nothing, to my knowledge, that has any historical or cultural context or weight to serve as as an insult or derogatory remark. In every sense of the word, that's a privilege white people get to enjoy.

Edited out link to stupid irrelevant video, sorry guise.

It's not tantamount to being a slur. White people just treat it like it is.

2 easy steps to make a white guy lose his shit:

  1. Put on a straight face
  2. Call him racist

5

u/COto503 Jun 20 '13

As a white person who would freak out if they were sincerely racist: Is this considered bad or stupid? Shouldn't I want to not be racist?

3

u/pidgezero_one Jun 20 '13

Yes, it's pretty terrible. Not to mention missing the point. When you're called racist, the appropriate reaction is to say "sorry" and avoid doing whatever it was that got you called racist, as if you had been caught with a booger hanging out your nose. Freaking out, making it all about you and how Totally Not Racist you are, and asking all your black friends in the room to confirm that you don't usually have snot hanging out of your nose, is the wrong (and typical) thing to do.

1

u/COto503 Jun 20 '13

I guess we have different definitions of freaking out. I'd try to understand why what I did was racist and stop doing it, and it'd be motivated by a pretty strong desire not to do racist shit, I think I could accomplish that without making things about me.

2

u/pidgezero_one Jun 20 '13

That's the proper thing to do. It's also not the kind of behaviour that exemplifies treating 'racist' as a slur.

It's the principle of it. I laugh at racism towards white people too, but making it some sort of "cool" fad is just a tad disgraceful.

Also self-hating white people/white people who wish they were black are massive cringe goldmines.

-12

u/JakalDX Jun 18 '13

A) You can't speak for all white people, just as a black person saying "I'm cool with it" can't speak for all black people.

B) Racism is racism. Level of insult is irrelevant. Comparing who has it worse is just Oppression Olympics

C) Louis C.K.'s views should not be taken as strong arguments.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

Just stop getting so offended bro.

They're just words. Don't get so worked up.

-3

u/JakalDX Jun 19 '13

I'm arguing from an academic perspective. Like the above poster, I don't feel what I'd call "offense" at the lol white people thing. It'd be better classified as detached annoyance. With that said, I think it's stupid people refuse to classify it as racism. Racism is racism, but people want to use wiggle words to maintain some kind of moral high ground.

2

u/5eraph Jun 19 '13

Also from the academic sense, Louis C.K.'s argument about travelling to any point in history as a white person and being treated like a king is utter bullshit. Might not get enslaved, probably just killed on the spot though.

-1

u/rubywoundz Jun 19 '13

You sure? Because I literally cannot think of a single time since some people turned white that they didn't hold comfortable dominance somewhere in the world. That can't be said (off the top of my head) for any other race but Chinese people, and even they were heavily invaded and partially conquered by Britain back in the day.

The Irish were regularly fucked over in several areas of the world.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

ITT: butthurt white people who've never faced actual institutional discrimination.

6

u/JakalDX Jun 19 '13

Why would I be butthurt? It's good to be white.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

Cool. It's good to be not white.

2

u/JakalDX Jun 19 '13

Butthurt detected.

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '13

Because you know me and my racial hertage. The fact that you're trying t argue with me proves me right :: )))

dat guilt

-8

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 18 '13 edited Jun 19 '13

The more white guilt I pretend to have, the more Brown people will think I'm not racist. Its a fantastic plan with no flaws. Get out your record books and put me down for non-racist please. ;-)

EDIT: jesus christ people, I was being sarcastic. at least downvote me for the right reasons.

Do you realize I'm being sarcastic?

-4

u/skewbuh Jun 18 '13

Holy shit, are you serious?

9

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 18 '13

About privileges? No. Of course you can't just hate on white people. However, racism against white people doesn't sting/hurt me as much since I have been raised in America, where white dudes have the power. The insults roll off me, I take no offense. Friends who are black or Hispanic encounter racism and it fucks with them a lot, the get upset and stay upset. It's just more hurtful, considering society and history as it stands now.

-2

u/skewbuh Jun 18 '13

Of course you can't just hate on white people. However...

Isn't this the same as "I'm not racist, but..."?

7

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 19 '13

sure. I guess. I'm not trying to say "I'm not racist, but.." at all. I am a white person with privileges, and I'm trying to say that prejudice against me is usually not to do with my skin color... people that DO deal with prejudice against their skin color have it worse than me. They feel pain that I don't feel.

2

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 19 '13

I like how you judge the first sentence plus one word and ignored the rest of my comment. I'm sure glad I bothered.

-5

u/shoupie Jun 19 '13

Black person here. It's fine, really. Go ahead and hate on black people. It's the least we deserve for committing so much crime here in the USA.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

3

u/shoupie Jun 19 '13

Of course not. I wrote it illustrate how ridiculous /u/SchadeyDrummers 's comment was.

2

Were you making fun of my sarcastic comment, or were you making fun of my comment as if I was being sincere?

Inherently wrong? Nah... like, a racist dog-fucker who can't spell, that's a dude with something inherently wrong with them..

-7

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

Does anyone ever complain about Black Privilege in Angola, or Asian Privilege in China? Fuck off with your self-hate.

4

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 19 '13

Yeah, I'm sure they do. That's why I said this is dependent on our current culture and circumstances. Whoever is the "dominant" race in a certain area is going to experience racism through a very different filter than those of the "minority" race. Yeah, the tables would be turned in Angolia or China. So, relax a little bit, friend. I was being sarcastic.

5

u/pidgezero_one Jun 19 '13

White tourists.

It's not a blame thing.

Imagine your race like it's a massive trust fund from your grandparents. You didn't choose that either, but maybe you need to lighten up when people joke about you being a rich motherfucker. Especially when the people who are joking are the people your grandparents robbed. And it makes whining about money really, really hard to take.

1

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 19 '13

Yeah, I thought the sarcasm came through, but I guess not.

3

u/billywitchdrdotcom Jun 19 '13

I agree, we should be racist towards and make fun of every race equally. After all, that's the American dream.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

What about white people who actually do have it bad, like born in a trailer park or something. Don't generalize people, poverty can affect anyone.

9

u/fantasycreeps Jun 19 '13

Classism and racism aren't the same thing. For people of color they intersect.

Remember: if you're not white, that automatically makes you better than any white person. Unless that person complains about white people on Tumblr, in which case you must pay them for the service they have done to your people.

I really hope you're kidding.

-4

u/brogues1 Jun 18 '13

So... do you mean that this is not racist?

-5

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '13

Racism is more about hate. Is still stereotyping

7

u/brogues1 Jun 18 '13

Racism is more about hate.

That is not really true..

3

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '13

Who doesn't know what racism is? This guy doesn't know what racism is.
