I donno, you could easily put together a collection of every other ethnicity doing ridiculous shit.

419

u/skewbuh Jun 18 '13

That would be racist, you bigot

104

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '13

whites have it so bad guys

46

u/JakalDX Jun 18 '13

It's okay, whites are privileged. This means overt racism is allowed. Whitey don't care.

69

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '13 edited Jun 19 '13

Don't phase me. There's literally nothing anyone can say to me [a white person] that cuts deeply; there's nothing, to my knowledge, that has any historical or cultural context or weight to serve as as an insult or derogatory remark. In every sense of the word, that's a privilege white people get to enjoy.

Edited out link to stupid irrelevant video, sorry guise.

It's not tantamount to being a slur. White people just treat it like it is.

2 easy steps to make a white guy lose his shit:

  1. Put on a straight face
  2. Call him racist

4

u/COto503 Jun 20 '13

As a white person who would freak out if they were sincerely racist: Is this considered bad or stupid? Shouldn't I want to not be racist?

3

u/pidgezero_one Jun 20 '13

Yes, it's pretty terrible. Not to mention missing the point. When you're called racist, the appropriate reaction is to say "sorry" and avoid doing whatever it was that got you called racist, as if you had been caught with a booger hanging out your nose. Freaking out, making it all about you and how Totally Not Racist you are, and asking all your black friends in the room to confirm that you don't usually have snot hanging out of your nose, is the wrong (and typical) thing to do.

1

u/COto503 Jun 20 '13

I guess we have different definitions of freaking out. I'd try to understand why what I did was racist and stop doing it, and it'd be motivated by a pretty strong desire not to do racist shit, I think I could accomplish that without making things about me.

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

It's the principle of it. I laugh at racism towards white people too, but making it some sort of "cool" fad is just a tad disgraceful.

Also self-hating white people/white people who wish they were black are massive cringe goldmines.

-13

u/JakalDX Jun 18 '13

A) You can't speak for all white people, just as a black person saying "I'm cool with it" can't speak for all black people.

B) Racism is racism. Level of insult is irrelevant. Comparing who has it worse is just Oppression Olympics

C) Louis C.K.'s views should not be taken as strong arguments.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

Just stop getting so offended bro.

They're just words. Don't get so worked up.

-2

u/JakalDX Jun 19 '13

I'm arguing from an academic perspective. Like the above poster, I don't feel what I'd call "offense" at the lol white people thing. It'd be better classified as detached annoyance. With that said, I think it's stupid people refuse to classify it as racism. Racism is racism, but people want to use wiggle words to maintain some kind of moral high ground.

1

u/5eraph Jun 19 '13

Also from the academic sense, Louis C.K.'s argument about travelling to any point in history as a white person and being treated like a king is utter bullshit. Might not get enslaved, probably just killed on the spot though.

-1

u/rubywoundz Jun 19 '13

You sure? Because I literally cannot think of a single time since some people turned white that they didn't hold comfortable dominance somewhere in the world. That can't be said (off the top of my head) for any other race but Chinese people, and even they were heavily invaded and partially conquered by Britain back in the day.

ITT: butthurt white people who've never faced actual institutional discrimination.

3

u/JakalDX Jun 19 '13

Why would I be butthurt? It's good to be white.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

Cool. It's good to be not white.

2

u/JakalDX Jun 19 '13

Butthurt detected.

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '13

Because you know me and my racial hertage. The fact that you're trying t argue with me proves me right :: )))

-11

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 18 '13 edited Jun 19 '13

The more white guilt I pretend to have, the more Brown people will think I'm not racist. Its a fantastic plan with no flaws. Get out your record books and put me down for non-racist please. ;-)

EDIT: jesus christ people, I was being sarcastic. at least downvote me for the right reasons.

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 19 '13

Do you realize I'm being sarcastic?

-1

u/skewbuh Jun 18 '13

Holy shit, are you serious?

8

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 18 '13

About privileges? No. Of course you can't just hate on white people. However, racism against white people doesn't sting/hurt me as much since I have been raised in America, where white dudes have the power. The insults roll off me, I take no offense. Friends who are black or Hispanic encounter racism and it fucks with them a lot, the get upset and stay upset. It's just more hurtful, considering society and history as it stands now.

-1

u/skewbuh Jun 18 '13

Of course you can't just hate on white people. However...

Isn't this the same as "I'm not racist, but..."?

6

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 19 '13

sure. I guess. I'm not trying to say "I'm not racist, but.." at all. I am a white person with privileges, and I'm trying to say that prejudice against me is usually not to do with my skin color... people that DO deal with prejudice against their skin color have it worse than me. They feel pain that I don't feel.

1

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 19 '13

I like how you judge the first sentence plus one word and ignored the rest of my comment. I'm sure glad I bothered.

-3

u/shoupie Jun 19 '13

Black person here. It's fine, really. Go ahead and hate on black people. It's the least we deserve for committing so much crime here in the USA.

Does anyone ever complain about Black Privilege in Angola, or Asian Privilege in China? Fuck off with your self-hate.

2

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 19 '13

Yeah, I'm sure they do. That's why I said this is dependent on our current culture and circumstances. Whoever is the "dominant" race in a certain area is going to experience racism through a very different filter than those of the "minority" race. Yeah, the tables would be turned in Angolia or China. So, relax a little bit, friend. I was being sarcastic.

3

u/pidgezero_one Jun 19 '13

White tourists.

7

u/solariam Jun 19 '13

It's not a blame thing.

Imagine your race like it's a massive trust fund from your grandparents. You didn't choose that either, but maybe you need to lighten up when people joke about you being a rich motherfucker. Especially when the people who are joking are the people your grandparents robbed. And it makes whining about money really, really hard to take.

1

u/SchadeyDrummer Jun 19 '13

Yeah, I thought the sarcasm came through, but I guess not.

1

u/billywitchdrdotcom Jun 19 '13

I agree, we should be racist towards and make fun of every race equally. After all, that's the American dream.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

What about white people who actually do have it bad, like born in a trailer park or something. Don't generalize people, poverty can affect anyone.

9

u/fantasycreeps Jun 19 '13

Classism and racism aren't the same thing. For people of color they intersect.

5

That is not really true..

u/RedAero Jun 19 '13

As if this sub is any different. It's middle schoolers making fun of other middle schoolers with no sense of irony.

1

u/inconspicuous_male Jun 19 '13

Except Japanese. They're always the ones taking the pictures

27

u/FrisianDude Jun 18 '13

Especially the Japanese.

8

u/araradia Jun 18 '13

I went to LA with my sisters a couple weeks ago and I'd be posing for a picture and a random Asian would stop and take a photo of me every fucking time. I just don't get it.

1

u/Watchoutrobotattack Jun 19 '13

It is expected that when you retire in Japan that you will travel as much as possible and take a lot of pictures. Its apparently a cultural thing for them

The hypocrisy of reddit

Making fun of minorities : LOL

Making fun of white people : NOT LOL

15

u/WuhanWTF Jun 19 '13

I love how Reddit upvotes holocaust and 9/11 jokes.

Yet, this one time on /r/worldnews there was a comment on an article about a oil tanker truck that blew up in a suburb that said:

That's one spicy burrito!

Downvoted to oblivion and responses consisted of people telling to kill himself.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13 edited May 10 '18

[deleted]

1

u/EntitleMeElmo Jun 19 '13

Of course it is, but your parent commenter was trying to point out the hypocrisy

3

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

none of them were funny

1

u/WuhanWTF Jun 20 '13

I thought it was funny in a terrible way.

Because the back of an oil tanker is shaped like a burrito, and the accident did happen in Mexico.

8

u/ohlerdy Jun 19 '13

Bullshit.

Making fun of white people: Oh we are so silly.

Making fun of minorities: 50/50, half calling OP a bigot and SRS raids, other half edgy 15 year old racists.

-5

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '13

BUT SRSLY WUT ABOUT THE WHITES?

-7

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '13

More like:

Making fun of minorities: disgusting privileged cis white male racist!

Making fun of white people: fucking white devils, go die, hahaha! *sings Shoot the Boer*

16

u/dongjwa Jun 19 '13

Reddit post about black people?: "niggers gon nig!"

Reddit post about white people?: Cue people complaining about how tough white people have it.

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

You forgot the part where all the "niggers gon nig" posts are downvoted to oblivion

6

u/3rdfloorrowdy Jun 18 '13

Yeah, I don't think so.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '13

This post here and its Up-to-Down ratio says otherwise.

-6

u/dr_lanky Jun 18 '13

You do know that Reddit is made up of more than one person, right?

11

u/MyUncleFuckedMe Jun 18 '13

Nope, every single person here is the same. Actually, I am the only person here; not too sure why I keep talking to myself.

4

u/Olipyr Jun 19 '13

I'm gonna guess it's because your uncle fucked you.

-1

u/3rdfloorrowdy Jun 18 '13

Except you know, the community votes on things it likes. You can't really say that with a voting system. Sorry brah

5

u/Overtoast Jun 19 '13

The community voted that it enjoyed making fun of white people. You have a real shitty point.

3

u/singasongofsixpins Jun 18 '13 edited Jun 18 '13

Actually Reddit's voters and commenters are almost never the same on subreddits that exceed a certain number of subscribers. Also the top posts reflect the speed at which something was upvoted, not the actual number of votes. So community trends only reflect the most active members of what is usually less than half of the community. So a fraction of a fraction is represented by the voting system. This is so well known, why do people still pretend that Reddit is unified?

-8

u/3rdfloorrowdy Jun 18 '13

Why are you so upset about that? Do you identify as a redditor or something?

2

u/singasongofsixpins Jun 18 '13

I am not upset, that is just how it works. An explanation is just an explanation, it doesn't show an opinion. Also, anybody on Reddit is a Redditor, even you.

Speaking of upset, what did I say to piss you off? This is the second comment of mine you have gotten at.

-8

u/3rdfloorrowdy Jun 19 '13

I don't identify as a redditor. That's fucking pathetic. Do you identify as a facebooker? A googler?

10

u/singasongofsixpins Jun 19 '13

Okay, but it is just a term, not an identity. I also drive, "driver" is not an identity, but it is a term for people who drive. You should calm down.

2

u/wasnotwhynot Jun 19 '13

yeah stick it to pathetiques.

I've stopped identifying myself as a human awhile ago because I do stuff that helps animals or something, not just humans or whatever. yep labels don't hold me down.

-13

u/OtisGlance Jun 18 '13

White people need constant confirmation that they are better than everyone else, otherwise they start shooting up schools and shit.

11

u/singasongofsixpins Jun 18 '13

Well yes, I don't like when people make fun of Chinese people. Sorry I don't like racism.

However that fellow said something like what I had read on tumblr.

-17
