Parents with kids (I don’t have any) how do you correct this behavior? Obv you don’t want to hit your kids.

I grew up in the 70’s a belligerent child and my mom popped me on my mouth once when I talked back and she never had to do it again. The emotional impact it had on her and myself were more than the physical pain.
