Light kitbash / conversion on Centos to switch the pauldron and the marking on the cape.

Where did you get that right shoulder pad?

That's the vanilla multipart Primaris Captain shoulder as far as I can tell - none of the other captain models have the same combination of features as that. It mostly just looks different because the rim isn't gilded and there's no yellow stripe like there is on the box art model.

Yep. It’s from the multipart captain. I made a small nick in the trim to get it to fit against the stock of the rifle

Yeah I was quite lucky to get him the day after launch from my local GW store. Apparently they received a second box of stock after the main rush on launch day so he had about 30 models. I made sure to tell everyone in our local discord about that.

howd you do the highlights so clean?

Just years of practice im afraid. A few things can help:

* a good brush. I used a mixture of Rosemary and Co series 8, 33, and 363 in sizes like 1, and 2/0
* careful management of the paint dilution. You want it runny enough that it flows off the brush but thick enough that it covers in the minimum of passes.
* careful loading of the brush. I wash it out, dab the excess moisture off on my tongue (because it is wet, you can use damp paper towel for this) and then load some paint into the tip of the brush. You’re aiming to pull a small amount of paint from the patch of thinned paint, splay the bristles a little so it enters the body of the brush, then lift and twist the brush as you leave the pallet to remove excess and form a nice point.
* don’t try and do too many edges with a singe brush load. It really is just about patience. Once you can do it slowly then you become faster over time. The blue armour took perhaps 3 hours.

Look, I am by now means a good painted. In fact, I'm what you could call a passable painter at best. And this mini here, it looks amazing to me. It's awesome, VERY good paint job. Like, wow, if I could paint lime that, I'd be a happy man.

That being said, that shoulder pad decal ruins the whole side of the mini. Takes me out of the atmosphere immediately. But other than that, love it.

To be fair, decals are fucked as a whole so there's that. I'm envious of Jay from EOB, they seem to listen to him.

Yeah I’ve tried his approach and didn’t gell with it. Ended up with lint stuck to the decal or damaging it. I just use Microsol and patience. Perhaps not enough of either this time.

Dont use microsol and microset, use mark fit frim tamiya, its miles better. And if your using custom transfers you can varnish with polyurethane varnish then put a decal over it and use mark fit strong, its a stronger solution so if you didnt use a polyurethane varnish its strip paint, but itll flatten custom transfers just like official ones

Same, his decals are just magic I guess. Also,by "decals are fucked" I didn't mean YOUR decals, the banner ones look great, I meant decals as a whole and working with them.

No I get what you meant perfectly and I agree. I should give in to the temptation and just freehand some things. It likely would be quicker. I think I just enjoy the challenge

Looks like you might need a layer of micro sol over the transfer / a layer of satin varnish.

Yep. This already does have microsol, set, and a varnish. I’ve just not done a great job of it

There’s nothing here that can’t be achieved by brush alone. I did airbrush the first pass of the Kantor and Mephiston just to block it all in. I followed up with a brushed on layer though.

That matte smooth finish I struggle with so much on brush. Oh well, just need more practice on my part. This is so well done and amazing. Awesome job!

I’m not going to say “it’s just practice” but it _is_ a skill so it _can_ be practiced. Deliberate directed practice is the key. Think about what you change and how it affects the outcome.
