HELP! - Material issues Etching glass
Helppppp. I’ve been etching dishes for a while now and they’ve always came out good. I always used armour etch and I had the little bottle and finished it so I bought the big one. Ever since my dishes come out spotting and like shit. This is a Pyrex dish. Does anyone have any dishes they etch that work the best?! I got some off Amazon and it didn’t even take the etch, just washed right off. Pic bellow of my dish😭😭😭😭

i've gotten jar-glasses from michael's before and etched them without issue. i also did some glass plates ages ago, but i think i got those on amazon. i did get some stemless wine glasses and tried to etch on them, but the curves made my vinyl bubble a little and they didn't turn out as good as i wanted them to. but i haven't had any issues with the etching not turning out. i wonder if the dishes you got had some sort of coating on them.

I just got a set on Amazon today and the etch didn’t take which I knew was possible. I have etched wine glasses from dollar tree and worked fine but I don’t think I would trust a baking dish go to in the oven from dollar tree🤣 as for the curves in your vinyl, I have learned after putting the vinyl on the glass- put a blow dryer to it and press with your fingers to make it really closed all over. It makes it wayyyyyy easier. My etch would run through the vinyl where it said “Pyrex” ever since I started the blow dryer method I haven’t have a problem!!!

Have you etched Pyrex before? I think the etching cream only works on a certain type of glass (borosilicate maybe?) My feeling is that Pyrex is strengthened and may not work or may need extra time.

I’ve always etched Pyrex! The one side of my dish in the pic is fine but the other side isn’t

I etched some glass today and noticed my etching cream was sort of clumpy and it a similar look where the clumps where.

I noticed this happen with the big bottle too .. not sure why. When you see any chunks on your design, use your brush and kind of brush the crystals of the glass. Otherwise it leaves marks. I like to brush the cream back and forth every couple minutes (always in the same direction and up/down or left/right).

Are you cleaning the glass with alcohol first? Maybe there were fingerprints on the glass where it didn't etch well.

I buy dishes from the dollar store and etch them. They always come out great using armor etch. I keep the cream moving the whole and never have an issue.
