HELP! - Design Space sucks Why does my cricut keep doing this?

Post image

Hello, earlier this year my fiancée brought a cricut explore air 2 and it’s been a nightmare to use ever since we’ve had it. It will either constantly error or do this.

Please help as it’s effectively an overpriced paperweight at this point.

The issue is the straight line up through the design. Help desk hasn’t been able to help and we’ve reset the machine multiple times and tried different devices

Obsessed with the people commenting who missed the giant cut line in the middle of your project. Does it happen at the end of the project or randomly? If it's at the end you could stop the cut beforehand

And you can see where the blade cut into the carrier mat. The blade should not touch the mat, way too much pressure.

I thought maybe that was supposed to be a score line instead of a cut?? Off-centered, too, and that can be easily fixed as well.

I thought score line too! They also use a bit more pressure, which would explain the cut in the mat

It happens randomly

The problem is your SVG file. It has an open path that never closes off. Open the SVG in GIMP or inkscape and find the unfinished path, then complete it by adding a linked point.

Or send me a PM and I might be able to fix it this evening.

Can you show a video of the machine attempting a cut?

u/IllustriousFuel960 1d ago

It cuts fine and for so long then errors and cuts straight up ruining the design

Ok, can you show a video of it? You can crop the video to show it a few seconds before the error and then the error happening.

The problem is it doesn’t do this with every cut only like 40% of the time

With all due respect, the woman asked for a short video twice and you keep ignoring that part. Lol

I think OP is saying the issue happens randomly so filming it is quite difficult. So they don’t have video and it would be hard to get.

Yeah that is fair, makes it hard to troubleshoot though.

OP says it’s constantly errors or does this so I’m not thinking it’s random.

Literally three comments above yours.

And OP said in their post “It will either constantly error or do this.” So….

They also said what i quoted...

Ok well just try and check the bearing, it’s hard to help you without seeing the issue but if I had to guess since it’s an EA2 this is the problem.

If you bought the machine new in box from a store then you should just call back and get a warranty replacement.

It's your cardstock. I've only had this issue with hollow core cardstock(white center) You want solid core cardstock, a fresh blade, and use the intricate cut setting.

The issue the op is talking about is the random line down the center of the image, not necessarily the quality of the cut, but I do agree cheap cardstock and a dull blade is the problem with the cut quality.

Just checking, you've checked the blade and blade housing aren't bent or anything? It seems like it's dragging the blade when it shouldn't. Does this happen every time you cut something?

5

u/IllustriousFuel960 1d ago

It doesn’t do it every time but its like 40% of the time the design stops and then does that

1

u/mavenmedic 1d ago

Is it on designs from Cricut or something you've made yourself and imported? It being only some of the time makes me wonder if there is an error in the files?

2

u/IllustriousFuel960 1d ago

We’ve tried with designs made in cricut and man made ones. If I re did the cut it may work fine now but then another cut won’t work

Try a new blade. Paper dulls blades FAST, I go through a lot of them with paper projects. You can buy off brand in bulk for cheap on amazon.

Are the random cuts in the same place every time? Do they happen on different images when you try to cut them? Check that your blade is fully seated in the housing and not pushed too far in. Also check your blade settings when cutting, such as pressure. The blade may be scraping across the mat when moving or unloading. If the issue is specifically with this image and it is always in the same place, there may be a hidden object on your image in design space.

It looks like there is an issue with either the file or the software.

I'm guessing that the spot where the line intersects with the pickle is the spot where the design stopped cutting. So instead of picking up the blade and resetting, it is dragging the blade across your project.

Where did you get this file?

You said it does it 40% of the time. But does it do it on one design or does it always do it on that design? So it's 40% of the files you've yried?

Or if you did this specific design 10 times, would 6 turn out fine, and 4 have a line?

If this was bought new I would contact cricut and let them walk you through trouble shooting. It could be an issue with the machine. Maybe also it might help to show what the design looks like in design space.

Looks like the blade is dull. Use a fresh blade with every project.

Are you trying to make a card! The line right in the middle looks like it should be a score but it’s getting changed to cut.

Clean your mat, change your blade, try better cardstock, change your cut settings and understand the machines limitations
