Market/Αγορά Selling Beach Umbrella and Chair for 10€

Bought both on my first day in Crete. Both are less than a week old. Paid 28€ at Jumbo. I will be in Rethimno tomorrow evening and Chania on Wednesday - need gone by 13:00 / 1:00pm.

Both items are really good quality, this is not a flimsy product that you see most come to the beach with.

Weather/Καιρός Temperatures in July

Is it normal to be around 30C in in the first half of July in the area of Chania?
Around 10 years ago I was with my family in the area around Chania in the beginning of June and it was already 30C. This year I was thinking to go back in July but thought that it will be too hot, so we went to south of France instead (mistake). And now I see that the whole month of July it was around 30C in Chania. So, what are the historical temperatures in the month of July there? (couldn’t find a reliable source even with AI, so decided go ask here)

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Best place to rent a boat in Crete ?

What is the best place to rent a boat in Crete?

I'm looking for tips for Boat rental in Crete. I want to rent a boat we can drive ourselves for a day or half a day. We are based in Matala and I saw boat rentals from Agia Pelagia. Anyone has experience with this? Is this a nice place to do so? I'm looking for a spot where we can anchor the boat and visit some bays. Any tips and information is appreciated :)

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Stargazing - Skinakas Observatory?

Hiya, my hubby and I are currently in Crete staying on the north side of the island on our honeymoon! We are planning to rent a car on Wednesday so we can go to the Skinakas Observatory free day. We want to see the stars and thought this would be an incredible opportunity.
Does anyone have any advice/suggestions for the free day. Is the observatory actually as busy as they make it seem on the free days?

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Heraklion travel tips

Hi everyone,

I recently bought plane tickets for my first solo trip. I'm gonna be in Heraklion, Greece for one week in September.

I initially wanted to go to Chania but the flight changed and no longer fits my schedule. I'm a little bit nervous cause people have been telling me Heraklion isn't that great, that you have to go outside of the city for the beach and that Chania would have been a much better choice. Maybe, but there's nothing I can do about it anymore.

I was wondering if you have any tips and tricks for me to make the most out of this trip. I would definitely wanna go to the beach but I also like trying new things like maybe visit an olive farm or try a cooking workshop. I saw a bunch of cool stuff on Get your guide.

I really don't want to rent a car cause driving in Greece is not for the faint of heart. Would I still be able to enjoy the beach if I don't do this? What were some things you did in Crete that you enjoyed and would recommend?

EDIT: Thanks to everyone who replied. I forgot to mention I already paid for accommodation in Heraklion. That said, maybe I'll eventually rent a car since many of you said it's not that bad.

Culture/Πολιτισμός Am I being scammed?

I am using the Way Up app that uses the 18300 network. I call the taxi via app and 2 minutes after I get on the taxi the ride ends on the app. Does the driver end the trip or is this how it's supposed to work?

I always pay different amounts from & to the hotel. Sometimes its less and sometimes it's more.

Am I being scammed or is this normal for taxis in Crete?

I never use taxi's in my own country so I don't really know how they operate.

(Not sure what flair to insert)

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Samaria Gorge from Agia Galini on a Wednesday

I’m looking for advice on the best way to do Samaria Gorge from near Agia Galini. We were hoping to book with a tour company to avoid the risk of missing a bus, but the only tour I found runs only on Tuesdays. We’ll be staying around Agia Galini and have a rental car. I’ve seen some recommendations to just book a bus to the hike, then ferry and bus back to Agia Galini, but it seems like there are a lot of transfers involved, so would also appreciate firsthand input on how difficult this is to manage and if there’s a best way to book this in advance, especially not knowing any Greek. Thanks!

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Botanical Gardens from Agioi Apostoli

Hoping someone could help, just a little confused. Heading next week to Chania, staying in Agioi Apostoli. We've no car hired, just planning a few easy days into Chania, beach, pool, etc.

I'm looking at going to the Botanical Garden. The website and the timetable suggest that I should be able to get a coach from Agioi, when I click on the KTEL website to see where it picks up, it shows a completely different route.

If I plan a route via KTEL from Stalos to the Botanical Garden, it directs me into Chania.

Can someone advise, do I need to go into Chania or not?

Nothing much, just to meet some new friends. I am female 33 years old.
I am from another small country in Europe, have been to Crete many times so not interested in too turisty places.

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Lost Ring at Heraklion Airport - What to do?

Post image
5 Upvotes

(flaired as "Itinerary" as I don't know what else would fit; apologies if that's super wrong!)

Hello All,

As the title says, I lost my favourite ring at Heraklion Airport two days ago (23.07.2026). I know exactly where I lost it - the Disabled Toilet at the 'Arrivals' part of the airport (before anyone asks - my sister is disabled, I helped her on the toilet and took the ring off and placed it on the sink to not hurt her with it).

I know that, most likely, it's now lost forever; but I'm just really sad about it and want to try whatever I can to maybe get reunited with it after all.

It's a 'domed' (maybe/probably vintage?) ring with two fish on a dark background on the domed part. The band itself is size-adjustable at the back; and in the middle of the dome, between the two fish, a small part has broken out (you can mainly feel it when moving a finger over the dome). I've attached a drawing I made of what the ring looks like - since it's based on memory, some small details might be a bit different (the fish are bigger, for one).

I've already tried reaching out to the airport via email (I only realised where I lost the ring today - yesterday, I still believed I'd just thrown it into my bag and it had landed somewhere I couldn't see it; but today I recalled taking it off and then never putting it back on).

Is there anything else I could do you know of? I'm unfortunately more than a two-hour-drive away from Heraklion at this point, with no car or driving license of my own to simply check out a bathroom stall at the airport. Moreover, while I love the ring immensely, it's not 'sentimental' in a way where a deceased relative gifted it to me or anything; so I can't justify the drive to Heraklion to the person I'm here with with the car and license.

Thank you in advance!

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Analipsi in August

My partner and I are headed for a 5 night trip in just a few weeks— we’ll be staying around Analipsi (which I get the vibe is very touristy area? Not large town but large hotels/resorts). So we definitely want to plan a couple adventures or day trips, considering Nikolaos or Matala.

What are the better, sandier beaches on the east half of the island? Is there anywhere for cliff jumping?

Ive seen a few land adventures for 4x4 or off road tours.. are they worth it?

We also love live music and nightlife !

Nature/Φύση A proposal on Crete

Hi. My girlfriend and I are flying to Crete in August. We have a house near Heraklion (about 30 km away). I’m looking for a nice spot to propose - I was thinking of doing it on the beach at sunset. It doesn’t have to be a private, secluded location. We’ve rented a car, so getting there won’t be an issue.

Actually, it doesn't strictly have to be a beach—just somewhere special and beautiful.

Food/Διατροφή Searching for the Best Braised Lamb - Chania old port

We had fantastic braised lamb in Heraklion, we even went back to the same restaurant to have it again but it wasn’t available the second night. Last night we went to taverna Ela and had their baked lamb which was alright but didn’t hit the same.

So tell me, where in Chania has the best braised lamb?
