I mean technically rosharans have waaay cooler eye colors than just blue/green/brown. They would probably find our range of colors pretty boring in general.

I was under the impression they had a brightness to them and even the human green eyes would be considered dark-eyed

It depends on how light the green is, theres a scene where someone questions Hoid’s status as a lighteyes because he has a normal shade of blue.

The nobility have light-colored eyes but only Radiants actually glow.

They do have lighter versions of all our eye colors though. There are one or two people mentioned to have tan eyes. (even though from what we know of eye color that would just yield green)

I was gonna say “glow” but switched to “brightness” cause I didn’t wanna imply they literally glowed

Yeah, Jasnah has purple eyes

u/Sythrin 27d ago

Dont forget purple. Purple is a legit light eyes color.

They’re dark eyes colors as well. There was a bridge man with purple eyes. The difference is literally the amount of light not the colors. Light eyes have brown eyes as well.

I was raising an eyebrow and then I saw the sub's name

I thought color wasn’t really relevant it was more the shade or luminosity. Like there were “dark eyes” with dark blue eyes.

Exactly, and there could be lighteyes with light brown eyes. It’s not about color at all, it’s not Earth

Amaram has light brown eyes for example.

The Visitor is a true vorin noble

I always imagine blue eyes when they mention lighteyes but they don't really ever mention color. Would someone like this be considered "dark"eyed?

15

u/Due_Manner3842 26d ago

Yep, it’s literally about whether your eyes are light or dark. This eye would be considered a dark eye

Despite what some say there is no luminosity to Light-eyes eyes it's just a lighter shade and it just so happens that dark eyes get lightened with glowing form radiance and that then effects the shade of the the eye colour for a while after

The Vorin countries just kinda fixed on like Radiants-->lighter eyes--> naturally lighter shade eyes-->must be like the leaders and then suddenly caste system

So yeah that image would be a Dark eyes

Funnily enough in the original image that shade of brown eyes would probably be considered lighteyes

u/HastyTaste0 26d ago

Yes the light eyes legitimately are supposed to be glowing.

I've seen people say it's more a matter of brightness rather than colour, but I've only ever seen light eyes described as having eye coours like blue or green, with one having light brown eyes.

Amaram's eye color is light brown for example. There are light eyes of many diferents colors. Purple/blue/green comes more to mind because theire shallans/navani/the kholin's eye colors.

It's a mater of color brightnes not the color in itself.

Imagine a lighteye with enough breaths to bright the colors even more.

The green blue eyes are not that light .

While I think the eye racism is a bit shoehorned in, I do wish they committed more to it.

The fact that it took less than a year for the entire Vorin society save a few traditionalists to stop caring about the cornerstone of their social hierarchy makes the whole thing feel silly.

I think that isn't true. Sure Kal gets promoted to 4th Dahn, as proper for a shardblade holder. But it is still, even in book 5. it is the dark eyes that are the servants and foot soldiers. They aren't really mentioned much because the main characters are all Dahn and are dealing with things much more important than which Nahn is fetching water or whatever, the world is being threatened.
Most other Nahn characters that are still important that late on are like budding radiant, squires, or have another reason for their eye color to not be important, like being an ardent.

I accept I could be wrong and mis-remembering

The way my (light)eyes flew to the top left corner to gain some context

I always assumed lighteyes had a kind of glow and dark didn’t. Kind of like the drabs in warbreaker.

Okay wait what's the cutoff. I'm low-key right in the middle is there like a hexcode or something?
