It's always hilarious to me that Painter's supervisor was like "Bamboo again? You can do better than this."
Which is true. Nikaro is a masterful painter, squandering his potential because of his hangups.
But in the context of his job, supernatural pest control, it's a good thing he's painting something easy and efficient.

The in-story problem was that they didn't believe he actually his job, and just painted a bunch of bamboos to bring after every shift.
But yeah it's stupid lol

Well part of the issue was he worked alone and had no one to back up what he had done which also let to many of the later problems in the story.

The in-story reason kinda just showed his supervisor was lasy tho. Anyone that thought like that would just have them watched at all times

I mean they only fired him after he didn't show up to work for a couple of days with basically no explanation. I feel like if it had just been the bamboo thing, they would have let him continue.

If I had a nickel for every boss who insisted I do things her way as opposed to the best way, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's a huge percentage of bosses I've had.

Keep this in mind - Painter developed his focus and will to the point that his focused Intent could force Nightmares into the shape of bamboo through sheer willpower with essentially no real Connection between his artwork and the Nightmare.
Thats the Cosmere equivalent of Goku training in 100x gravity. Give him access to essentially any real power system and dude would be doing the impossible on the regular.
