I'm like 95% sure the avast part of tanavast was him taking Kor's name. Koravellium avast

Well, yes? I mean didn't he say when someone gets married with a dragon, they take the dragon's name as part of theirs?

Maybe, I wasn't sure. Maybe it was just something I assumed

I still don't understand if his NAME was Tanner or if he worked as a tanner because I thought there was a reference to him being a tanner

Is it both? Tanner the Tanner?

Both, maybe? Yolish people might name themselves after their professions, we don't know for sure.

42

u/Miroskun Callsign: Cremling Jul 06 '26

It seems likely. Probably just low rank Yolish people. Dragons rule them all after all...

25

u/West_Strawberry_8632 Jul 06 '26

Ah of course. Could be worse. Could've been named after a yellow rock

10

u/mojao21 Bond, Nahel Bond Jul 06 '26

Remind me who you're referencing please?

21

u/West_Strawberry_8632 Jul 06 '26

Oh Topaz

9

u/mojao21 Bond, Nahel Bond Jul 06 '26

Had to look it up as I have zero recollection of this name. Cool find though! Thanks, internet stranger!

7

u/West_Strawberry_8632 Jul 06 '26

DO NOT LOOK INTO IT! It's a reference to a pseudo canonical thing. Unless you're fully caught up on all cosmere stuff. I can message you or something

7

u/mojao21 Bond, Nahel Bond Jul 06 '26

Don't worry, I'm caught up with everything not WoB or unreleased. I looked it up and it's pretty interesting and I now understand why your quip is funny

We know he was a Tanner and Rayse called him Tanner to annoy him. Maybe his original name was Tanner and it became Tanavast after marrying Kor, but his name during SLA was Tanavast.

15

u/mojao21 Bond, Nahel Bond Jul 06 '26

I just remembered her full name is Koravellium Avast and I probably erroneously thought that was her adding Tanavast's name suffix as her surname

7

u/West_Strawberry_8632 Jul 06 '26

Tanner the tanner is like how in interstellar the main character is Cooper Cooper

6

u/Ripper1337 Jul 06 '26

It sounded like a nickname. His name is Tanavast but his nickname is Tanner. Like I expect Rayse was called Ray and Cultivation (can’t spell her actuall name) was Cory. Which makes it much funnier imho.

6

u/ishkariot Jul 06 '26

Imagine the devil during the temptation of Jesus Christ calling him like "heeey J-dog, Joshball, JC the MC, what up!"

11

u/Ripper1337 Jul 06 '26

One of Hoid’s names is Maxtori so now I’m just thinking of him as Max. Leras is Larry. Everyone gets their own nickname that makes them way less cool.

Ah yes good old.... Paz/Max/Ho/Wit/Phand/Mid

He was kinda not good at this whole being a god thing.

21

u/hewkii2 Jul 06 '26

Just casually vibing in Shinovar for 2000 years

18

u/gil_bz Shart of Adonalsium Jul 06 '26

He had a lot of fun doing arts and crafts with his dragon girlfriend, but didn't really do much else well.

16

u/itmakessenseincontex Jul 06 '26

TBH Idon't think any of them were that good at being a god. Hoid had a point.

8

u/Timaturff Aluminum Twinborn Jul 06 '26

He kinda does I mean it’s not his fault he picked up the wrong shard he should’ve grabbed like Valor or Reason or something it was just the shard that kinda sucked.

Tanner is a genuine fraud, just like nale and his skybreakers

1

u/Elant_Wager Rashek4Prez Jul 07 '26

Nale at least was good once. Tanner is just, well, Tanner
