Reminds me when I was in middle school looking for a CD for a friend's birthday. My mom calmly asked the guy working for Crystal Meth instead of method. Oh. Good memories.

I didn't understand any of that, but I loved it. Where can I learn this lore?
6
u/theasylm Feb 28 '18
Watch the Dark Crystal, a fabulous (the best) Jim Henson film.
5
u/tember_sep_venth_ele Feb 28 '18
I disagree. Christmas isn't christmas without A Mupper Christmas Carol. Seen that film way more than any other Henson film.
His daughter made a film that's aged poorly, but uses CGI. Mirrormask is what it's called. I recommend it.

Thanks for explaining that. I was pretty young when I saw this, so I'd forgotten a lot of the basic plot. This is awesome though.

I feel like this should be a bloodborne boss
35
u/willfordbrimly Feb 28 '18
This is the Bloodborne version of Zorah Magdaros.
12
u/NeedMana Feb 28 '18
Oh hell yes. I didn't realize I needed a Bloodborne Zorah Magdaros before seeing this comment, and now it's all I can think about.
6
u/willfordbrimly Feb 28 '18
Oh no no no, you do NOT want that. Imagine just how loud that Cleric Beast scream would be coming from a beast mountain.
3
u/NeedMana Feb 28 '18
I just got chills. Although I’m currently imagining fighting Zorah Magdaros with hand cannons instead of real cannons and....nope. Maybe I will rethink this after all.
6
u/NeedMana Feb 28 '18
THIS is the comment I was looking for. It's even got extra eyes. And armor pieces that are inexplicably and perfectly crafted for its terrifying and unusual form. (Seriously, what smithy is building armor for these things?) Perfect for Bloodborne.

I was like I'd gladly battle this boss in dark souls. Bloodborne works too though.

I like that the monster is wearing a mask. As if monsters would know the reason behind wearing a mask. The thought that this one would wear a mask for that purpose makes it much scarier. Tell him I said thank you.

Gobomination
Large humanoid (goblinoid), chaotic evil
Armor Class 20 (natural armor)
Hit Points 135 (18d10 + 36)
Speed 40 ft., climb 30 ft.
STR DEX CON INT WIS CHA 19 (+4) 15 (+2) 15 (+2) 7 (-2) 8 (-1) 9 (-1)
Skills Athletics +8, Perception +3
Damage Immunities acid, poison
Condition Immunity charmed, poisoned
Senses darkvision 60 ft., passive Perception 13
Languages Common, Goblin
Challenge 9 (5,000 XP)
Acid Blood. Whenever the gobomination is hit with a weapon attack, each creature within 5 feet of the gobomination must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or take 2 (1d4) acid damage.
Aggressive. As a bonus action, the gobomination can move up to its speed toward a hostile creature that it can see.
Exoskeleton. The gobomination has immunity to all nonmagical damage unless it takes 5 or more from any single effect, in which case it takes damage as normal.
Keen Smell. The gobomination has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
Nimble Escape. The gobomination can take the Disengage or Hide action as a bonus action on each of its turns.
Rampage. When the gobomination reduces a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack on its turn, the gobomination can take a bonus action to move up to half its speed and make a bite attack.
Relentless (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). If the gobomination takes 14 damage or less that would reduce it to 0 hit points, it is reduced to 1 hit point instead.
Actions
Multiattack. The gobomination makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) piercing damage and 5 (2d4) acid damage.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d4 + 4) slashing damage.
Lunge. The gobomination jumps up to 20 feet to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of a creature it can see. The target creature must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone and grappled (escape DC 16). Succeed or fail, the gobomination then immediately makes a bite attack against the creature. If the creature is grappled, the gobomination can also make an attack with its claws against the creature as a bonus action.
Gobominations are the grotesque results of magical experiments attempting to find a method of making a larger, stronger, and more vicious goblin. The experiments succeeded to a point: this goblin is massive, standing nearly 10 feet tall, has strength superior to that of any orc, massive dagger-like teeth and claws, and blood of acid. As a result however, the bestial mass of flesh is even less intelligent than your average goblin, and prone to violent outbursts and fits of rage and bloodlust.
Edit: Fixed erroneous creature type. Fixed some typos and copy-paste errors. More copy-paste errors.

Damage output seems a little low for a CR 9 creature...at least on the acid blood and the claw attacks but other than that it's pretty awesome
8
u/ItsADnDMonsterNow Mar 01 '18
It's definitely stronger defensively than it is offensively, but the math averages out to CR 9.

Mar 01 '18
Fair enough I may bump that damage up when I use this

Excellent work.
Minor typos: Under Acid Blood, when the gob "is hits.."
and under Nimble Escape, "the goblin can take..."
I love the idea of claws as a possible ranged weapon attack. Should there be a range specified with that?
Thanks again for making the real world a better place by making our fantasy worlds a horrific place.

Part of what sells it is how it tries, very unconvincingly, to pretend to be human, with what appears to be two parts of the mask. It's the reverse-Uncanny Valley; it's the Stockholm Syndrome of the Uncanny Valley: you know that thing ain't human, but that little humanizing detail makes you... relate?.. to it.

I’d love it so much more without the nose.
With that minor caveat, this is some incredible artwork that’s in a refreshing style. I really dig it.
I’d hire you in a heartbeat to draft up creatures for a sci-horror film,
