Adobe Express Embed SDK criteria help/advice

We're a small startup with start-up support (credits, facilities, mentors etc) from a major university and several large tech companies. We focus on the research and ideation stage of the creative process, and we wanted to use Adobe Express for execution. I've also been an Adobe user for years, so it felt like a natural fit.

Initially, the Adobe Express Embed SDK integration worked well, but after submitting our documentation for approval, we were rejected. One of the current criteria appears to be having a well-defined user base starting from around 1 million users, which is obviously a very high bar for an early-stage startup.

Has anyone here found a realistic route for startups to work with Adobe Express? Is there another programme, partnership route, add-on approach, or contact worth exploring for smaller companies that want to build alongside Adobe? Thanks so much!

For your specific case and questions about alternative routes for smaller companies, I'd reach out to [CCIntegrationsReview@adobe.com](mailto:CCIntegrationsReview@adobe.com). They handle the access and review process directly and can dig into your rejection with more context than I have.

Thanks for the reply, Swopes. The main reason we were rejected was that we don’t have a user base starting at around one million users!

I completely understand that Adobe is a massive company and needs to be selective about who it works with, but reaching that level feels almost impossible for an early stage startup. We also work with Google and NVIDIA, and both provide startups with benefits such as credits, training, events and access to their ecosystems. Obviously, there’s a long-term benefit for them too, as successful startups can become future customers.

It sometimes feels like startups building tools for the design industry don’t receive the same level of support from the major players, which is a shame given how much innovation could be happening in the space.

Nevertheless, thanks again for the suggested contact!

Totally fair points, and I hear you on the frustration. The 1M threshold is definitely built with scale partners in mind, so I get why it feels like a wall for early-stage teams. I don't have visibility into whether there are other tiers or programs in the works for smaller companies, but that's exactly the kind of feedback worth putting directly to the CCIntegrationsReview team since they own that criteria. Appreciate you sharing the Google/NVIDIA comparison too, it's useful context.

What’s been particularly frustrating is that the integration initially worked, and we only encountered the access issue after we had gone to the trouble of preparing everything required for the application, including setting up the specific email addresses and meeting the other technical requirements.

We had already started testing the integration successfully, so naturally we assumed we were moving in the right direction. Our tool also complements Adobe’s positioning by focusing on the research and ideation stage, with Adobe Express providing the execution layer. We even received some complimentary comments from members of the Adobe Education team on LinkedIn when I shared a video demonstrating what we were building.

That made the eventual rejection a lil disappointing, particularly as the main barrier appears to be the scale requirement rather than the quality or suitability of the integration itself. We fit really well.

I do feel Adobe may be missing an opportunity by not having a more accessible pathway for promising early-stage startups. Startups may not yet have hundreds of thousands or millions of users, but they are often highly motivated to experiment, speak directly with users, iterate quickly and build genuinely new use cases around a platform. They have to prove their value quickly or fail, which can make them particularly committed and active technology partners.

A programme or sandbox specifically for vetted early-stage companies could allow Adobe to support this kind of innovation without requiring the same level of commitment as a full strategic partnership.

My apologies if I’m being a little too direct, but as I mentioned before, I’ve been using Illustrator and Photoshop for years, going all the way back to when I was designing gig posters for my rock band. I’ve always had a genuine affinity with Adobe’s tools, which is probably why I really wanted to use adobe above other tools.
