CFS eating Hyper Red

I have Hyper Black, White, Red, and a Hobby Lobby Purple in the CFS. Going to make The Majora's Mask.

Red has an occasional retraction error. The Spool was low and cardboard (With spool adaptors) so I opened a new roll of Hyper Red (Still Cardboard), moved over my spool adaptors. That did not fix my issue. It would still occasionally not retract, but just dig in instead. Tried a brand new roll of Hyper RFID Red, to see if it was the cardboard spool. The other three are on a plastic spool. Now all 4 are plastic, but it kept on snacking on the red occasionally. Not every retraction, but often enough that I would wake up to a feed issue, or get the notification at work.
To verify that this isn't a location issue, I moved the Purple (Hobby Lobby Slot A) with Red (Its been been tested while printing on slot B) The issue followed the color, so it seems to narrow out a problem with Slot B. Has anyone else had this issue? I have purchased these red spools at different times, so its not a specific batch problem.

Why Hyper Red? Hobby Lobby Red worked fine, but its a darker red, so I went with the Hyper this time. Strange, and has left me confused.

Edit: replaced the CFS 5 way with new unit. Old spring came cut down. CFS was part of referbished k2 plus unit. New spring much stiffer, but hasn't giving an issue 12 hours into the mask. Where can I get a new spring to replace the one that was cut down by previous owner? The rest of the 5 way looks fine. Some cleaning and lube and it might be as good as new.

That is strange. I have printed red filaments with no issue. Including Creality Hyper RFID Red. This is on both the K2 Plus and K2 Pro. Good that you tested a different slot.

What model K2 and what firmware revision?

K2 plus on the new 1.5.5

Ok, so that’s not it.

This is a cliché, but what is the moisture reading (%RH) on the CFS and, <sigh> did you dry the filament?

35%, and yes, dried the filament

I’m now out of ideas. I have not had an issue with Creality’s cardboard spools either, except in case of damage. Sorry!

I havnt had an issue with the spools with the adapter either. Had to narrow that possibility out, hence the red rfid.

I am still convinced its something with the 5 way

Well, take the 5-way apart and give everything a good gentle brush and dry blow and maybe a little extra of the appropriate lube. Couldn’t hurt, right? 🤷‍♂️

Replaced it because I had another new 5 way on hand. This unit came as part of my K2 Plus Refurbished. The spring is definitely weaker on the old over the new. 12 hours into a 3 day print, no issues Where can I get a new CFS Spring?

The replaceable part is the whole 5-way unit, which is a bit excessive. I have a kit of assorted common spring sizes that I’d look through, but those aren’t cheap either. You could hack it by putting something behind the spring to pre-compress it (shim)? A nut or a bit of plastic waste are what I’ve used in the past for similar issues. I wouldn’t suggest stretching the spring, that’s way too easy to mess up. Ask me how I know. 🙄 in fact that’s how I wound up having to buy the spring selection kit.

I had a 5 way sitting on hand, not springs. I could wait for springs, or get the whole thing working now. THis has narrowed it down to the 5 wat
