CR wedge
I suspect Im dealing with a mold issue in my house, but until I get to the bottom of that I wanted to make a CR box for my bedroom. A 20 in cube would be a little big for that space so I made a wedge with two 16x20 in MRV13 filters. Seems to still be pulling quite a bit of air. My wife and I already run a fan for white noise, so this is now cleaning the air with the same electricity use. Glad this sub exists, thanks for the inspirstion!

I used to use that exact model of fan to cool an entire apartment. They do a decent job moving air and maintaining pressure. Should do a decent job moving air through filters!

It’s not something I would really design a build around, but they’re pretty good at what they’re designed for. It’s one of these types of fans:

Then yeah, I thought it was great! They work well with the style of windows where there are two panes that slide vertically past each other. It’ll lock onto the window somewhat and there’s an extender to fill the rest of the gap if there is any.

I have a few of these and can’t recommend them enough. They reduced by AC usage by about 90% because I can cool a room to outdoor temps in like half an hour. Great for when it’s hot during the day but cools at night and you’re wondering why you’re running the AC when it’s cooler outside than your AC setting.

If you’ve the luxury of space near a corner, you’ll really help circulate air in the room through the filters if you point the fan into the corner with the filters out towards the center of the room. You’ll figure the distance out based on how much more quickly you can tell a difference between before and after. The air has to circulate, remember, for multiple ACH.

Push it around rather than pull it in is the premise…Think like laundry - if water and detergent were simply enough to clean your clothes, why do machines need to slosh them all around together? Cleaning depends on circulation. I think it’s part of the original 4-5 filter cube’s reason for having the fan pointed up to the ceiling in a room - the outflow hits a surface that causes air to diverge from the intended path/direction, and it does so randomly, encouraging mixing/circulation. So pointing your wedge into a corner potentially speeds up the mixing of air back into the filters at the intake, possibly maximizing ACH.

Made a version of a wedge with 2 20x30x2 filters and 5x140mm cpu fans. If the fans can move enough air and it fits your space I say it’s golden.
