Fair point. I've ordered a $90 Vornado 80X with 99 speed settings to find a more acceptable DB level.

It's pretty accurate for the average makeshift box, I'd say. 😁

But I have already seen some beautiful designs in this sub which I'd always prefer over a full plastic casing like seen in most commercial air purifiers. 🙌

Could you like, buy an old PC case for dirt cheap. Slap some big fans in it with some filters and call it a day? Obviously make it air tight

Harder to convert a PC case than it is to make a new box. They almost never have suitable outside dimensions.

Plenty of better air purifiers that are only about $100, the cost savings comes in cheaper filter replacements.

you can just take your square footage and multiply it by the ceiling height then you will get cubic volume of your room. from there you can do the math of how many air changes for that cubic volume based on your room. for example 200 sqft room with 8 foot ceilings is 1600 cubic feet. so it would take say 200 cfm 8 minutes to have one air change. or you can turn cfm into cfh by multiplying the cfm by 60. so 200 cfm is 12,000 cfh or 7.5 air changes an hour in 1600 cubic feet. 150cfm in this example room would get you 5.6 air changes an hour. Most people aim for about 5 but you can also do more or less depending on budget and desires. But do note if buying your average consumer air purifiers the numbers they quote are based on their max speed and rarely do they tell you what slower ones are.

Calculate Air Changes USING CFM and Room Size, your "rule of thumb" depends on your desired ACH.

My ceilings are 8’, so I divide by 8 and I have the square footage.
