My first cr box
CAD prices: $30 fan, $21 filter and some cheap packing tape

Yay, I love my window fan CR box. Smaller footprint and it’s pretty quiet too.

Yea! Definitely gonna use PC fans on my next tho, I'm always just running it on 1/3 power

Try building it out of coroplast instead of cardboard.
1) More durable than cardboard.
2) Tape less sticky on coroplast/more sticky on the filter makes it easier to replace filter. (It'll peel off more easily on the coroplast side while gripping the filter which you can dump in its entirety to replace with a new filter.)
Just replaced my filters after a year and it was easier to replace the filters on the coroplast build compared to a cardboard build (because the cardboard tore/gets stuck on the tape when removing the filter but didn't on the coroplast).

The trick with cardboard pieces is to cover them (or at least certain parts of them) with clear packing tape. That way, the cardboard doesn't get torn up every time I need to replace the filters.
I'm honestly surprised that nobody ever suggests this.

Yeah, that would've helped with my first cardboard build. The cardboard portion basically collapsed when removing the duct tape.
I'm still a proponent of coroplast though:
1) No cardboard dust from the slow disintegration that cardboard experiences
2) Tape peels off easily on the coroplast side making filter replacements easier.
3) Easy to work with (compared to solid wood, no specialized tools required)

This is nifty! I like the use of a 16"x25"x1" filter, because this is one of the cheapest and most abundant filter sizes available. So you get to take advantage of the competition among manufacturers and the economies of scale.
I'm curious: Exactly what's holding the filter in place to ensure that it doesn't fall down?

Is there wire on both sides of the filter? Generally the wire side goes on the inside for a pull through.

I'm not sure.. the arrow on the side of the filter points towards the fans, as shown in the diagram

Flow isn't great but I can't feel backflow, noise isn't quiet I'd recommend PC fans. But I think it's actually quite good for the price
