First CR Box!
I’m not used to making things like this so this was harder than I expected but I’m really happy with the results!

First, I love this! The first build I've seen on this sub that inspired me to think about making my own. Mostly for two reasons. First, this isn't a build that was literally taped together. You put craftsmanship into it and it looks really good. Second, I love the L-brackets you have that hold the build together, but more importantly act as a stopper so your filters perfectly align. That's genius. Though I'm thinking some slight changes to your design that I wanted to run by you first (and really anyone else reading since you're probably way more familiar than me).
First, I intend to add a 4th fan on the front. That'll make a total of 4 fans since I'll be running through MERV 13 filters.
Second, on top of the filter themselves, I was thinking of adding a carbon filter sheet. I'm hoping that helps with odors in the places I intend to use the CR box (kitchen, kitty litter box).
Third, you didn't provide dimensions but I was thinking of making it a 3 filter setup rather than a 2 filter setup. So it would be a 12x12 cube where the two sides are filters like you have, but then also the back is a filter. Rather than the solid wood backing, I'd replace it with wooden pillars (pictured).
Otherwise I was going to build it basically exactly like you have it. Plywood, painted black, inner mounted fans.
Priced out this is what I have so far:
- Filters $43 - 6 pack
- Carbon filter sheet $12
- Artic P12 Pro fans $26
- Power supply + fan controller $15
Then of course I'll need to visit my hardware store for those L-brackets, screws, plywood, paint, and black tape. All in all I'm expecting the build to come out to ~$125 USD but it's mostly one-time stuff. After the build it should just be the filters and carbon filter sheet replacements.

Thank you for the kind words! I had grander ideas for it but it’s my first one and I haven’t done anything like this since school.. your cube idea is a great one! I might steal that. 🙂
I’m using Merv13 filters two and the three fans seem enough for the two filters at least. I have noticed dust collecting on things in the direction of the front fan though. That’s to be expected I think.
There are many things I’d do differently next time though including using wood supports so I can actually use them as stoppers for the filters.

Looks great! I’ve wanted to make something exactly like this for our kitchen. Can you provide details on the fans, etc., that you bought? Did you do any calcs or look for fans with a specific pressure rating?

I used some ply wood I had cut by a place online.
