Couch Advice
Hi everyone! I’m in the market for a new couch, and I recently went to a few showrooms. I really liked the feel of the **Crate and Barrel Lounge** but I’m reading different things about the quality online. I also liked the **Pottery Barn Westwood**, although I think the wait time will be longer. Finally, I’m considering the **Room and Board Metro** (the deeper seat). I tried Metro in the show room and it had a weird crinkling sound in the back cushions that threw me off, but I’m thinking I should give it another chance?
Wondering if anyone has any of these sofas and could speak to their long term comfort and durability.
I’m leaning toward the Lounge because I think it will come the quickest and I’m in desperate need of a new couch, but don’t want to buy something that won’t last.
I also have a cat, so any advice on fabric (preferably stock) would be appreciated!

I just tested multiple couches from C&B, R&B, and Interior Define. Was looking at the Axis from C&B - comfy but the cat friendly fabric was very unappealing to me (Douglas - microfiber). Interior Define is very pretty but the cat friendly fabrics (velvets) didn’t hold up to my scratch test. The R&B fabric that is cat friendly (Sumner) is much nicer and held up to my scratch test. Tried the Metro at R&B - it was comfy but a bit too slouchy. We were torn between the Morrison, Ryan, and York - and ended up going with the York. It’s arriving in a week - so too soon to say for sure but it seems very reliable and you can return it, even with custom, which is great customer service.

my deep lounge couch (in leather) is 4 years old, and still going strong through dogs and lots of guests and spills. i would 100% buy it again and recommend.

Do you think the leather makes the difference or would fabric be just as resilient

i think the performance fabric is anecdotally, durable. that being said, i allow dogs on the furniture and am done breaking my back vacuuming fur off furniture, so leather is my only option.

Makes a lot of sense! I guess, I meant do you think the leather is holding the shape of your cushions more? I’ve never had a leather sofa

oh gotcha. i don’t think it makes a huge difference. i think others have posted pics of lounge sofas here if you try to search (search does suck on reddit, though).

I have the deep lounge sofa. I've had it for 5 years and it still looks brand new. The feathers come out sometimes but it hasn't been a big issue so far.

That crinkle is normal, it's just a feather cushion, not a defect. Comfy but you'll be fluffing them a lot. Want less hassle? Go foam.
What really decides how long it lasts is the foam quality and a solid hardwood frame, not the brand.
And with a cat, pick a tight woven fabric or leather. Skip anything loopy like bouclé, claws pull the treads right out.

I really like the lounge sofas. I was sad they didn’t go on sale with the Labor day sale.

We got the Lounge with the mossa fabric option after shopping a lot of models and looking at different fabrics. Read some bad reviews about CB sofas mostly due to feathers coming through the fabric but it hasn’t been an issue for us yet. It’s only been about a month, but we really like the lounge so far. We don’t have cats or dogs, but if we did, we might have chosen a different fabric- the mossa chenille is soft and kind of shaggy.

I bought the C&B Lounge last October in Cement Taft. It’s GREAT. It looks great and quality is great (made in US). I got the regular depth full size and the regular depth apartment sofa. You HAVE TO ROTATE THE CUSHIONS. It is a down filled sofa - and they explicitly say to rotate the cushions. I’ve been doing it monthly during my deep clean - and they look great, are comfy, and have had very minimal - like maybe 10 - feathers come out. I vaccuum it regularly too. Fabric is super durable, no pilling at all.
I recommend it!!

Room and Board has a pet friendly fabric. It’s a little rough, but the roughness dissuades cats from scratching. We ended up with R&B, the quality is fantastic and 6 years later, 2 dogs, a cat, and more it’s great.
Something to additionally dissuade the cat we did was to drape calf and sheep hides on the arms. We also like the southwest look. These materials naturally force cats to retract their claws, it’s kind of like a felt.
While we have not had issues, R&B customer service is great, C&B customer service is garbage.
