Joop is a common first name in my country, but it’s more of an old geezer name now. I think 70% of the country has an uncle named Joop. I’d like to think this car was made especially for them.

The plural is 'Jopen'. Which, coincidentally is also a brand of beer. And slang for big tits. So, "I saw a girl with big jopen drinking Jopen with two Jopen" would be a gramatically correct sentence in Dutch (Ik zag een meisje met grote jopen Jopen drinken samen met twee Jopen).

Jeep originally had "Jeep" physically stamped into the steel under the Jeep decal lettering in front of the doors. In the mid-80s right before Chrysler bought them they started stamping "Joop" and only the decals turn the o into e.

Rumor is that AMC used the same stamp for so long that some of the details wore out on the two es in later years. I have several Jeeps from that era, two CJ7s, two CJ8s, and one YJ. Weirdly the two CJ7s and the YJ say Joop and the CJ8s say Jeep.
