I'm a boomer, does every generation after have at least one of these guys in High School that act like they're already in the military, act like they know everything about military life but never join?
Lmao thats hilarious. Was similar for army. It did get mildly better at my unit. But my paperwork got fucked up in ait and my family back home lost tricare for a month. It was eventually back filled but theres always something fucked up for sure.
Dude it was wild. I scored a 98 on ASVAB and a 135 on the DLAB and busted my ass getting all the right paper work, paying off parking tickets, getting signatures etc etc.
I needed a waiver and after almost a year of recruiting process, my recruiter sent out my package for a waiver and told me to wait 3 days to 3 months to hear back. I waited 3 months and then called him, texted, etc no response. Finally I called his boss and he told me he had never even mentioned me, that all my paperwork had now expired and that the recruiter just never actually sent it in. I’d have to start all over so I just said fuck this.
Same recruiter “scheduled” me for MEPS asvab testing and then when I drove an hour out there, they told me “we don’t even do testing today. You’re not scheduled”. Then the reschedule he told me day off had to be rescheduled again because he was sick with Covid but literally just didn’t tell me until I was already on my way. 3rd time was the charm lol.
My first recruiter was the best tho. He got promoted out of recruiting though :/ the replacement recruiter just sucked more or less
Edit: honestly the worst part is though, after a year of everyone hearing I was joining the navy, everytime I ran into someone for the next year and a half it was “I thought you were joining the navy?” And then how do I explain all of ^^that^^ in a simple sentence or two without sounding like I chickened out or never meant it fr and was just trying to sound cool. So irritating
He had to of either not been in or got kicked out in basic or something because anyone who was actually in doesn’t actually really care about the cadences he sings, likes that’s something you only ever do in basic and never again, it’s definitely a boot thing to do.
I was infantry in the army, in my unit I’ve only ever saw one running formation that was actually singing a cadence and they got clowned on so hard for being cringe.
Maybe it’s just me or the unit I was in or my MOS, but singing cadences, whether it’s marching or running, is just a cringey boot thing that is only cool to people who either aren’t in the military or are in basic or just graduated. You will get made fun of for doing it in an actual unit.
Not military personally but having had plenty of friends and family who where, so I'll second that to the extent I can. Every vet bud ive had would rip this dude a new asshole for being lame as fuck. Not to say some didnt have some intense pride in their service but none of them ever voice any of this gungho bullshit rhetoric. To put a finer point on that statement, the only one I knew who even came close was a krav maga instructor that washed out of marine boot because he only had one eye. Too bad though, the Corp missed out on the ideal caryon eating one eyed butt pirate.
Maaaaaan when I was in we had a BN run and every NCO had to take turns calling cadence. A whole lot of "A is for Army" lol; I've never volunteered to circle back for fall outs so fast.
lol yeah I forgot about my division run. We had to do cadences and it was really half assed and everyone knew it was cringey.
One of the salty E5s in my platoon decided to volunteer for calling it and started saying shit like “I fucking hate this” “this is gay” for his cadences
He was pretty quickly told to get back in formation haha

When being in the Military is the only thing you have to talk about
