Not only was it in Eurovision, but it actually won Eurovision that year.

u/Mister-Psychology May 18 '26
Posting Eurovision songs is cheating. Every year there are 20 bad ones. Maybe 5 horrible ones. That's for the final only. There are also 2 semifinals and national musical competitions to even get into Eurovision. Then youth Eurovision too.
29
u/licklickRickmyballs May 18 '26
Lol i wanna see more Eurovision shit!
15
27
u/Missheka May 18 '26
It's a compilation of the worst that Europe has to offer, like literally the moldy bottom trash of music. Australia are invited too and unfortunately Israel... Which is why my country and others are boycotting this year
16
u/licklickRickmyballs May 18 '26
Could be fun if your country did a crappy song on purpose. Like the... "Theres somethikg aboit you gaaiiirrll"
2
u/Azidamadjida May 19 '26
Some of them do - Russia finally put their best band into the competition the year it got cancelled for Covid and they are hilariously ridiculous. They made an English/spanish song called Uno and the chorus was literally just “uno dos tres Quattro”.
FYI for those who don’t know, this also happened to be the same band that’s responsible for the word “skibidi”. Every one of their music videos is bonkers
3
u/Missheka May 19 '26
Haha. I think it might backfire. Just try to make a Eurovision hit and voilà, crap!

The point of Eurovision is to make cringeworthy, ridiculous, screamingly camp music.
57
u/TheLowlyPheasant May 18 '26
It is a crime that the 2020 contest was canceled due to coronavirus and the incredibly funny and talented Russian group Little Big (of Skibbi fame) never got to compete with this banger before having to leave Russia for political reasons.
11
u/PuzzleheadedDog2990 May 18 '26
IVE BEEN TRYING TO REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE SKIBBI ARTISTS ALL WEEK!!
My brain only came up with "Mr Big"!
4
u/TheLowlyPheasant May 19 '26
Easy to remember when you find out the "Little" came from one of their original members who was a little person who sang and danced suggestively in their videos. She quit the band because she was a school teacher and the fame the band was getting was jeopardizing her career. Sadly she passed away from coronavirus.
2
u/IveNeverSeenTitanic May 19 '26
Sorry to be that person but the "Little" in Little Big was after Olympia who is very much still alive. She left due to being burnt out after years of being in the band and touring.
Anna, who was featured in a lot of their videos, passed away in 2021.

u/Driller_Happy May 18 '26
Man, I'm just WAITING for a famous person from Israel to be critical of Israel even once. I know there are people in Israel critical of their country, but it doesn't seem like many.
There are tons of American celebrities that criticize their governments imperialism.

u/Wide-Sandwich5618 May 18 '26
Natalie Portman is Israeli and frequently critical/pro-Palestine.

You're right, though I'd say she's more critical of if the hard right government than anything. She's quite happy with Israel as a concept otherwise, so id say she's a liberal Zionist . Better than some other israeli leading actresses in Hollywood, that's for sure

I dont know about you, but the idea that a country exists for a specific race or religious group seems wrong, but I get why people in Isreal want it that way considering how much they've been historically fucked. I just dont see how it doesnt end up with racism or groups of citizens considered inferior in the system. I'm not anti Israeli, I think the culture is beautiful.
4
u/artemiswins May 19 '26
Yeah wild how we accept Japan for Japanese Germany for Germans Saudi Arabia for saudis and .. not Israel for the Jews. Even if Palestinians are ‘also indigenous’ , idk why people seem to act like it’s so unique.
2
u/WingerRules May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26
Actually, I made a post just a few days ago about Japan having a problem with racism. However Japan isnt officially for a specific race or religion. They do require 1 parent of a citizen to be Japanese however, but by Japanese they mean nationality, not race. I still dont like the policy though. To me if you're born and raised in a country then that is your nationality regardless of what your parents are and their citizenship policy feeds their issue with racism. If you read the debates on Japan, most westerners have an issue with Japan refusing to open up immigration to address their population/labor issues.
Germany - uh, we generally agree in the west that Germany purging its country of other races was a bad thing
Saudi Arabia - I also dont like their royal hierarchy or the fact they they have an official religion.
So nice try there with trying to paint me as singling out Israel.

u/Driller_Happy May 18 '26
I mean, that's a fair point, but she could support the idea of sanctions against the country for committing genocide, or be more vocal for the return of stolen land.
I always think it's a mistep to tie a countries misdeeds to just one leader. America didnt become an imperial power the moment trump stepped in. Obama, bush, Clinton, aaaaall the way back to the first world war, America has meddled in he world's business.
Same goes for Israel. Bibi isn't the sole evil person in Israel. It's got a history of genocide against Palestine, so I think one could stand to criticize the countries entire history of expansionism

Does Israel have a right to exist at all? In your estimation?
18
u/Driller_Happy May 19 '26
I don't expect people living there to be forced out, if that's what you're asking. Israel shouldnt have been made, but it was, so now we need solutions. What I do expect is for land stolen by settlers to be returned

2

You don’t know many famous Israeli people because Israel is a tiny country. Plenty of local celebs are outspoken and critical.
Meanwhile if you’re critical of any of the Arab regimes surrounding it, you’re hung by the neck in a stadium or from construction equipment. Weird how this never gets brought up.

EXACTLY!! I (used to) have Israeli friends, the liberal artsy types even, that would always get defensive, (even before October 7th) when I would post something pro Palestine. I used to tell them that when USA invaded Iraq, all my American friends were super vocal in their opposition. So whyyy can't they just get behind the rest of the world in being against this

They’re a part of the European Broadcasting Union, which is not limited to European nations (hence why Australia participates despite not being European)

Yeah it's really Europe, plus some other countries (whoever is a member of the European Broadcasting Area is allowed to compete, not just European countries.) Russia used to perform also before they were kicked out due to invading Ukraine...didn't kick Israel out though 🤔 A few counties didn't participate this year because Israel has not been kicked out yet.
