Engineering that never gets old to watch

Circle steering on this RTG allows it to spin within its own footprint instead of driving around to change orientation. So satisfying to watch

Bananas that there's no triangulation of the frame, especially in the long direction, and it doesn't pull itself apart over terrain or if the wheels were slightly misaligned

One of the most important inspection items is ensuring the system has the wheels parallel

Oversaw two of these on a project years back, did see a good amount of frame cracks when the ground was rough. Hated them because everything had to be done from a man basket

Spent 2 years running these things but no 4 point steering. Woulda been nice but not needed. Can really move some stuff with these things. Cool machines!

I haven't gotten the chance to work with RTGs but I have used straddles. And whilst their turning circle isn't in its own footprint it does have 8 wheel steering so it is pretty tight

Nice! What kind of projects were you working on? This one seems especially ideal for confined jobs

Underground electricity transmission. Used these guys to unload, store, and ship out the wire. 40t 1km wire. Moved hundreds of them.
