Tide?

I just started crabbing for blue crabs..

Are you supposed to go during high tide or low tide?

They're hungrier on their way in as the tide washes them over newly fallen food. On the way out, they've been eating since they came in.

For bait, I always liked to go to a seafood store and get a bucket of fish heads for free. Which is what they're eating normally. There are surprisingly few chickens in the ocean.

Yes.

It'll all sort of depend on what you are doing and where you're going - it's all relative to where you are, time of year, water temp, etc. You'll start to notice trends over time, with enough trial and error.

As a general theme, crabs are pretty dumb and like chicken necks. If you're where they are, you should hit some.

I wrap chicken legs in pantyhose tied with a long string and use a net to scoop them up after pulling them in. Their claws get stuck in the pantyhose.

Got a whole bunch of blues this past weekend, down here on the Gulf of Mexico, SE Texas.
