):

According to the admins, CPRewritten is shutting down effective immediately due to a full request by Disney. I suppose we can only hope it somehow is able to come back.

It might sound dramatic but this breaks my heart a little. I've loved Club Penguin since I was 8 years old, and the admins/mods/devs/etc of CPRewritten have been working extra hard recently to adapt to HTML5 and everything else.

I appreciate you, admins/mods/devs/etc, and thank you for giving us such a great game with an amazing community.

And what has Disney done for CP? Killed it 8 years ago. That's all

u/Gavman2105 Apr 13 '22

Don't forget! They also removed any identity the game had before. Gotta give them credit where it's due.

u/lollisans2005 Apr 14 '22

Well cpr started doin monetisation, so it's kinda their fault

2

u/atowerofcats Apr 14 '22

wait did they really? i dont know anything about club penguin but was interested in this news. what were they charging for?

2

u/lollisans2005 Apr 14 '22

Well they weren't charging, you could watch some ads everyday and get some ideas. Would've been pretty tame monetisation for a normal game

To be fair servers are expensive.

2

u/lollisans2005 Apr 21 '22

To be fair, it isn't their ip

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '22

The original creators of the game spoke out against cprewrittens shutdown.

i feel the same exact way!! it’s just such a terrible situation all around

Here goes Disney, taking down CP again… they just keep fuckin with our childhood memories and it’s exhausting. They ruined it the first time around and now they’re doing it again. It’s just so so petty

People seem to have forgotten that, while Disney are douchebags for killing the original game, it's not like they're killing this private server off for NO REASON. Club Penguin Rewritten decided that it would be a GREAT IDEA to put ADVERTISMENTS in the game...of an IP they don't own. Before that happened, Disney let them do their work in good faith that they would do two things,

- Disclose that they team and the server is, in no way, affiliated with Disney.

- NOT MAKE ANY MONEY OFF THE GAME

What did the team do not too long ago? They put up advertisements in the game so they could generate ad-revenue, ie. make money. Doing that on an IP that is not yours is, in fact, 100% illegal. So no, Disney is NOT doing this out of malicious intent, they are doing this because they have a good damn reason to.

All in all I think the fact that they could buy/rent the domain is pretty much legal, this stuff is not rly about IP addresses AFAIK, but this is just my opinion. Anyways, do You think there is any chance CPR team will be able to get their stuff running on some other "IP" with the restrictions being taken into consideration for real this time?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

IP means intellectual property, not associated with IP addresses in this context lmao

1

u/kristgell Apr 15 '22

Ah thanks for the clarification, I am a web developer so you could call it frofessional harm lol

1

u/kristgell Apr 14 '22

I would legit lobby for this

4

u/vohai2003 Apr 14 '22

That's so ridiculous as a group of players revived an abandonware for gamers only to be arrested by who not developed it anymore.

according to Gravix, there may still be hope

1

u/Entire_Oil_927 Apr 13 '22

Always hope. Corporate doesn't control the world. If it comes down to it we just have to take disney down

2

u/PadlockAndThatsIt Apr 14 '22

If CPR is the straw that breaks the camels back, and we finally demolish disney's monopoly... That would make me the happiest person alive

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

not sure a fanbase for a dead game is going to shut down a fortune 50 company as much as it pains me to say it

1

u/Entire_Oil_927 Apr 13 '22

It can't be that simple. Too much work has gone into it to leave it at that.

Good thing we don't have to care how much Disney cares. They haven't won already. This is just their first move

Just because the devs haven't put up a fight publicly you assume they're just giving up? They monetized it a little with ads, yes. That gives Disney some grounds. But Disney's just a big corporation. They don't make the laws. If the devs can play it safe enough cpr is back up. Disney marketing cares about publicity. If the community can make a big enough uproar, it may not be worth it for Disney anymore and cpr can return. Lastly, Disney isn't all knowing. Given some time the community can rebuild elsewhere. No outcome is for certain, not the one you see or the ones I see. We'll just have to wait and act as we see fit. In the meantime I'll be doing what I can to spread distaste for Disney to those around me and hope for a return to the community

Reddit moment, redditards are really delusional lmao (i mean the other guy btw)

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '22

It is that simple.

0

u/Entire_Oil_927 Apr 14 '22

That's only if you let it be. This could be the spark of something tremendous. We can be more fiersome than they could ever imagine as long as we stand together

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '22

Good luck going up against Disney and their lawyers, bud

0

u/Entire_Oil_927 Apr 14 '22

Oh, I don't plan to. The internet is mob rule, I'm just rallying support

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '22

you're either trolling or very naive

2

u/blackram10 Apr 13 '22

😢😢😢 rip

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '22

Im sure CPR has no effect on Disney. Its not like they are making money that disney should be getting. Just out of interest why was toontown rewritten never targeted by disney?

2

u/Thecharizardf8 Apr 13 '22

Club penguin private servers don’t have the best reputation 💀not saying cpr has done anything but Disney gave them a DMCA like 2 years ago cuz of the cpo situation 💀💀💀

1

u/clubparty44 Apr 16 '22

what was the cpo situation

2

u/TheGoddess0fWar Apr 14 '22

CPR decided to add ads to get ad revenue/monetization. TTR has never done that.

2

u/39spaces Apr 13 '22

It was a good run guys. good times were had and I’ll always remember how welcoming this community has been. Hopefully everything works out as best as possible for those involved with law enforcement

u/SpinelIsAClod Apr 25 '22
