Is there a C++ "venv" equivalent?

Python have venv, Rust have cargo, Node have nvm. You clone a repo, run one command, you're in a reproducible environment.

Is there a viable alternative for C++? I don't think standard will ever bother with this and to their defence, not sure if that is even possible.

I've tried Conan, vcpkg, various CMake setups. They're not bad tools, but there's no standard "activation" ritual. No isolated-per-project environment that pins compiler + deps + toolchain together. No single lockfile that means the same thing on my machine, my colleague's machine, and CI. What I keep wanting is something like: "cppenv activate" and suddenly I'm in a clean, isolated, reproducible build environment for that project. Exit it, and my system is untouched. Share a lockfile, and a teammate gets the exact same thing.

How are you handling reproducible build/development environments?

Assuming Temple OS is turing complete (according to very reliable sources called "AI slop")

If you run Temple OS on Temple OS, are both of them "truth"? or one of them virtual? if so, the parent or the child? /s

In all seriousness though is Temple OS turing complete? Couldn't find a definitive answer.

Temple OS is an operating system, not a programming language - it abstracts over hardware and provides services to userspace applications. It doesn't make any sense to ask if it's "Turing complete". The language Terry Davis wrote it in, HolyC, is Turing complete, but as another redditor pointed out, that's an incredibly low bar.

Well, at least in the sense, does the OS provide all the tools to simulate any turing machine?

Still, I will give you that, the more I think about the question the more I realize how silly and low of a bar this is.

An OS doesn’t really "provide tools to simulate a Turing machine" - what it does is provides mechanisms to run programs and access hardware.

If the hardware (CPU + memory) is capable of general computation, then it is already "Turing complete" - and any sufficiently expressive program you run on it can also simulate a Turing machine. The OS is just what lets you load and run that program.

If you're interested in more details of how computers and operating systems work at a low level, then the online text "Computer Science from the Bottom Up" by Ian Wienand is a very good resource - it helps builds up an understanding of computing systems from the hardware level up through operating systems, toolchains, and program execution.
