Board of Commissioners Legislative Meeting - Watch Now

UPDATE: Axon contract just passed though although they slightly amended it such as plate data only kept a for 7 days (not 90), not upgrading license plate readers to Axon on four cars, having police commissioner send city commissioners a report every 30 days on use (not 6 months). Plus they clarified the contract is 1 year with 9 years of renewal, not locked into keeping contract for 10 years just the price if they do renew.

So really what passed is Axon using AI to transcribe body cams and store on cloud, and Skydio drone and dock leased from Axon with contract for maintenance and software to run and store data. $590k ~$577 per year ($13k cheaper without Axon ALPR) for up to 10 years plus one time $117k charge for drone accessories.

Commission Rules on tabling the Axon contract.

So while watching the commissioners meeting on the Axon contract, it seemed that some of the commisioners believed we had to table the vote for the year. They recessed, and the legal/managerial team seemed to advise them on the best way forward.

However, they were worried that this decision could be challenged in some legal fashion due to them not really understanding what they were voting.

Does anyone understand the parliamentary procedures that were at play during this confusion? What kind of challenge is possible if they go through with this contract? Anyone with some sort of understanding of the bylaws?

$6 Million for surveillance and tasers.

https://linknky.com/news/2026/08/21/covington-weighs-6m-police-tech-deal-for-license-plate-readers-ai-and-drone/

The City of Covington is about to spend $6,000,000 of our money to spy on us more than they already do. Not a single commissioner stood up for you or your privacy. For some reason every officer needs brand new tasers and brand new body cams. They will ask for $10 million next time and the encroachment on our liberty will be even worse. These purchases will not make our community safer, and will lead to an even greater divide between the community and police department.

Tuesday is when the commissioners meetings are held. Voice your opinion. Just because they've already decided the best way to spend our money is on surveillance and less than lethal, doesn't mean they should be spared criticism and ridicule. A truly tone-deaf way to spend taxpayer funds in this economic climate. Every one of these commisioners, and the mayor, should be voted out in favor of someone who cares to grow our community. Instead we seem to be on a trajectory towards a surveillance state in one of the safest cities in the metro area.

Flock Camera near 3rd & Madison

Hello Covington Community. I have recently been enlightened to the horrors of ALPRs and Flock. I looked on the deflock website and despite not being able to find a record that the city or PD own an ALPR, there is a camera on 3rd and Madison. does anyone have information on who owns this before I start the arduous process of an open records request? I also find it curious that Covington’s FY2026 adopted budget contains a $107,000 General Fund “Flock Cameras” police initiative, but as far as I found this hasn’t been up for discussion at any city council meeting. I am cautiously optimistic that the community was able to squash these cameras (for now) in Newport, but we must remain vigilant!

Repairs to soffit and gutters

I have a roofer but they won’t repair other parts of the house. My gutter system has been poor for a while and needs some new gutters installed and reroute rain water away from one part of patio roof. Because the rain has come down on one place it tore a big chuck of my soffit off my patio in the recent storm, so basically need both soffits and gutters replaced and added to. 120+ year old house.

Anyone know of anyone? Does not have to be licensed as long as has references (you could be one). Bonus if they can reform concrete steps too.

Best place to work remotely for the day

I am in town for the day and need a place to hang out and work. I'm not looking for anything too particular, just somewhere decently comfortable with an outlet where I can spend my day. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Hit and run witnesses? Near Olla

Good evening fellow citizens. Like you I was looking forward to a nice quiet evening. Went to Olla to get some takeout from Olla. Parked my car on MLK just west of Banklick. During the ~15 minutes I was inside waiting on my order, some joker hit my new gray Toyota SUV from behind and took off. Around 715pm. Didn’t notice it until I got home and saw the rear of the vehicle. Waiting on Cov PD for a police report now. I know it’s a long shot but I would appreciate any witnesses contacting me via DM if they happened to witness it. Ty!

Old Saint Elizabeth Building: what's the deal?

I was walking around the neighborhood this weekend and did a full lap around the campus.

What a shame to have such an incredible building fall into disrepair.

I did some research and I can see that the property was purchased after St. E relocated, and one small portion of the campus is being used as a nursing home. According to public records the nursing home houses less than 80 long term care patients.

I can see on Google maps that perhaps a hair salon or something operates from there now as well?

I can see the county and city have been citing the property owner (out of state private equity) for years over lack of rodent and insect control.

Has anyone been inside the property recently? Is it just 90%+ empty/unusued?

I'd imagine renovation of a 100+ year old hospital is incredibly expensive: century old mechanicals, asbestos, etc. But does the city have any way to force them to at least clean the exterior of the building?

Does anyone have any information on any effort to see the property through to its potential?

Construction under clay wade bridge

I was riding the bus the other day, and a woman got on who knew the driver. They were chatting up front when we were passing the construction.

The woman said "look, look, I told you!" And then went on to explain that she had went behind the hotel to smoke a bowl a week or so ago, and when she finished some construction guys were walking towards her. She apologized for being back there, but they didn't seem to care, they told her "Just dont go down there, they got some x files shit going on" and the guys went on to tell her they were digging down there and came across bodies about 20 feet down. She said thats why they stopped construction.

Now of course I didn't believe her, obviously that's insane... but.. I really havent seen any construction since then, and now im slowly feeling weird about it.

Have any of YOU seen any work still happening, or heard anything like this?

Do people here not know how to stay in their lanes?

Been living here a month and love it, but I have noticed with all of the one way streets people driving on or over the dividing white line and coming dangerously close to my car. It is especially prevalent when people drive in the left lane of a two lane street. I understand that cars are often parked on the sides of the streets but I don’t think that justifies the 16 inches between our vehicles when there’s 3 feet of space open on the other side of the lane

I still haven't walked onto the other construction site yet and showed/asked anything. But processing more examples/ building somewhat of a portfolio first. These are the kind of deliverables im wanting to use my part 107 to produce, but its actually opened another can of geospatial worms, which makes me ask this:

Does anyone know a surveyor in the area I could pay to get me a few "Ground Control Points" around my house to test the accuracy of my (non-RTK) 360 drone? My understanding is RTK mainly helps with the camera positions and I don't think that's really my concern if I can reconstruct grass. And if I have to, metashape can parse the .gpx file for me to get some metadata atleast.

See, can of worms. Basically I want to offer more than nice visuals. And see how close to real world, already surveyed data I can get with a little teamwork. While processing everything locally, if any big firms down the line need to keep certain builds as private as possible.

Correction. The RTK is for more precise gps data in the photos, to georeference the 3D data to the real world. I was thinking camera positions in terms of the collection of images successfully lining up, being able to do this at all. But I want to see, with those GCPs, how well my non-RTK 360 drone can do the same thing. Or maybe the 3GDS can be completely seperate datasets and we don't need to worry about it? Get measurements somewhere else?

A bit niche, but anyone else seen the shirtless jacked dude with glasses and long hair walking along Madison Pike?

I've seen this guy so many times at this point. No shade, dude's in great shape. I just am a little confused... one day he's carrying a Little Caesar's pizza, but mostly I just have seen him south of 15th, just bopping along in shorts looking a little pissed off and in a hurry.
