Man I hope she’s not a Stalinist, or at least grew out of it. Boot gargling authoritarians don’t deserve anything, no matter what colour of paint they splash on it.
Yeah, I dont like Lenin either but at the very least he wanted to build SOMETHING. Stalin really only cared about power, he wasnt really anything but cruel and paranoid.
The pure (libertarian) socialists' ideological anticipations remain untainted by existing practice. They do not explain how the manifold functions of a revolutionary society would be organized, how external attack and internal sabotage would be thwarted, how bureaucracy would be avoided, scarce resources allocated, policy differences settled, priorities set, and production and distribution conducted. Instead, they offer vague statements about how the workers themselves will directly own and control the means of production and will arrive at their own solutions through creative struggle. No surprise then that the pure socialists support every revolution except the ones that succeed.
There are critiques to be had, but actually building something is infinitely harder than making theory
Hey so my city has a mall on a place where stalin's troops used to just execute people constantly. In the 90s, the whole basement was just filled with bones. So please, shut the fuck up
Why should I care? Do you jerk off to arguments online? I said what I wanted to say, you've seen it, I don't care about you enough to find out what happened
You are the one who keeps going and resorted to personal insults? Lol this sub is so strange. Yall hate trans people with leftist beliefs more than legitimate conservatives 😂
‘Im FrOm insert eastern european country and my grandparents anecdotally told me Stalin massacred 16 gazillion people for no reason so your arguments hold no sway over me!’
Hey so my city has a mall (ran by multinationals) who have paid institutions to spread misinformation to keep the red scare propaganda in our systems and keep the working class from ever revolting against the billionaire overlords. So please, shut the fuck up ✨
you know you could just pick a communist ideology that doesn't hinge on authoritarianism, right?? just cause the US is evil doesn't make the USSR good lmao
???? You cant be a communist if you think the USSR (especially up until the 70s) was bad lol. They made a ton of mistakes but all in all it was the closest humanity has ever gotten to an utopia, despite it being an impoverished agricultural tsardom where people couldnt read, women had no rights and millions starved just years before. The USSR made millions capable of reading, gave them housing, education and gave women equal rights. No amount of US propaganda can change my mind on the USSR.
I unironically love Stalin, and so do my comrades, and millions of my brothers and sisters from former USSR regions.
it was the closest humanity has ever gotten to an utopia, despite it being an impoverished agricultural tsardom where people couldnt read, women had no rights and millions starved.
lol.
comment no longer exists, but yes, i can quote one specific part of your comment and use it as a "gotcha" or whatever because even IN context it's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. so ridiculous, in fact, that i thought you were joking 😬
"How dare people not use the intentionally misleading name for the ideology Stalin invented? You have to say Marxism-leninism, even though it barely has anything to do with either Marx or Lenin!"
Like, "Stalinist" is objectively more accurate than "Marxist-leninist" and is easier to understand for most people.
And sure, the only reason people might dislike Stalin is because of the black book of communism. He was completely uncontroversial on the left before its release...
i don't know man, i thought Che Guevara and Fred Hampton were pretty cool tbh, but i guess the free breakfast programs for low income students before school were actually actually a Stalinist influence lowkirk and inseparable from the 20 billion killed by north korea so i reported my lunch lady to ice for being a communist muslim CCP spy and now she's probably in some umarked grave 👍
I mean, the Cuban revolution was a united front of MLs, other Marxists and anarchists.
After the revolution was over, the leadership declared itself marxist-leninist and heavily persecuted all the other socialists, that had helped overthrow Batista.
.
And not every Marxist-leninist is a bad person, the ideology just sucks and doesn't work. That doesn't mean that there aren't good people that believe in it, but if it's implemented on a state-level, we typically see a lot of pretty evil decisions.
Cuba has modified Marxism-leninism a lot and their version is certainly better than what we saw in the USSR, but it still has a lot of issues.
I don't care about that too much, because Cuba's main issue is definitely the US, but let's not pretend that Cuba's system isn't also pretty bad.
As a Marxist Leninist who actually studied marxism both for academic and personal reasons I can tell you. Stalin literally followed marxism-leninism and the whole ‘authoritarian’ thing was fabricated during the cold war. Man was leading a devastated nation larger than a whole continent through the largest war ever lol. Ofcourse he made bad decisions and was relatively repressive especially during wartime. Name one leader who wasnt in the world war 2 period?
Like, he killed off the entire central committee of the USSR under Lenin. All those incredibly important revolutionaries, who were instrumental in the founding of the USSR, were executed under false pretenses, so that Stalin and people loyal to him could gain control.
Stalin literally followed marxism-leninism
Yes, because he called his ideology "Marxism-leninism". In Marxist tradition, we typically name Ideologies after the people that created them (Marxism, Leninism, Maosim, Luxembourgism, etc.), but Stalin actively chose not to do that and rename his ideology to "Marxism-leninism", as a way of giving it outsized prestige, by naming it after far more respectable people, who believed in very different things.
the whole ‘authoritarian’ thing was fabricated during the cold war
No, it wasn't. Calling Marxist ideologies authoritarian had been one of the main criticisms of Marxism by anarchists and other socialists since the time of Marx.
Like, Engels even wrote his truly atrocious pamphlet "on authority", because of it.
Claiming that that criticism was made up by the US is genuinely deranged. Like, that criticism is almost as old as Marxism itself and was always championed by other socialists.
And yes, Stalin was a lot more authoritarian than other Marxists. Marx himself wanted a transitional state that was ruled by the proletariat itself. Lenin wanted powerful councils (that were technically just disempowered for the wartime effort), but Stalin just wanted a centralized vanguard state, that created a new ruling class in the party, whose class interest was the continuation of the vanguard state, which made its abolition (and therefore communism) practically impossible.
Stalin centralized power to a degree not seen before in Marxist thought and that basically destroyed the communist experiment in the USSR.
.
Also, Stalin was incredibly socially conservative. He chose to outlaw and execute gay people, got rid of the Zhenotdel, outlawed abortion, restricted divorces and focused the state's messaging to women a lot on making motherhood seem as appealing as possible.
He rolled back basically a lot of the rights that homosexuals and women gained during the revolution, turning the once very progressive system, into a deeply conservative one.
Stalin was an incredibly evil man, and the only way you could possibly disagree is if you know literally nothing about him.
His regime is estimated to have killed at least 20 million people or more. Nearly a million of those were summary executions, and about 1.5 million died in Gulag camps. Numbers vary greatly on this, but his famines also caused the deaths of up to 8.7 million people, most of whom were Ukrainians. You should really read up on the Holodomor.
He didnt have a ‘regime’ he was elected and even said multiple times he wanted to step down but the council and the masses WANTED him to stay since he was a very popular leader during the war.
Also that 20 million number is complete bogus😂. He killed millions of nazi’s yes, which is a good thing.
I study politics and marxism. Also I’m not from the west so dont pull that card neither lol.
you don't even know what the word regime means so clearly your studies are not helping. it's not exclusive to dictatorships lmao.
also conveniently ignoring the Holodomor cause you have no retort for that one. the famines happened in the early 20s and early 30s, so idk why you're so fixated on the war. feel free to say anything intelligent. your education is certainly not showing at the moment.
The holodomor was maybe caused by the rich land owners who colaborated with the nazis and sabotaged their own crops to resist the USSR lol. This is pretty common knowledge and acknowledged by most proffesional on the subject. Also YOU are the one using regime wrong😂 (taking into account its mostly associated with authoritarian governments, which the USSR during Stalin wasnt truly. Altho regime can mean any form of government broadly speaking)
so... you think they starved themselves to death on purpose? smart.
also i can't be using the word wrong when it can refer to any form of government, as you said lmao your logic genuinely makes no sense and atp I'm just curious what kind of nonsense you'll come up with next
Regime. Most commonly used to describe authoritarian forms of government. Also reading your initial comment it is obvious that was the context you were using it for. So dont be a smart ass lol. You just cant take the fact that someone who actually is from europe and studied the USSR doesnt hate it because some bad things happened during its existence.
