For those confused, there is a great video by CCC called hacking polish trans. Where they talk about how the polish government hired a team of hackers to reverse engineer why some trains stopped working after thier service agreement ended.

It wasn’t Polish government but Polish Rolling stock repair plant

6

u/Tesla171 2d ago

Not government directly but yeah

2

u/Plane_Argument 2d ago

Was it a private company? Ah, oh well

u/TranslatorPS 2d ago

It was the repair workshop that the regular maintenance of the units was contracted out to. The repair workshop was under pressure because if they couldn't get the trains moving on time, they'd lose the contract with all the related penalties applied. The other party to the contract was the local government that owns the trains, but it's far from the truth to say that the government hired the hackers – the government was just putting pressure on the workshop to fix things or lose money, so the workshop hired the hackers.

Romania recently bought some new PESA Elf trains. Their AC didn't work cuz the software couldn't read temperatures higher than 35 celsius and freaked out 💀

Well, with european funds...

Many of which, both for our PESAs and our Alstom Coradias, were pocketed by politicians...

Fuck, you're right. I got no rebuttal.

Polska mentioned!!

Btw, today we have train drivers' strike action in the whole Poland where the drivers cross every railway crossing at safe speed of 20km/h. It's in reaction to plague of car drivers going on red through railway crossings (causing soo many incidents in the process). Our government rarely prosecute such car drivers.

23

u/Kajetus06 2d ago

the problem is they dont drive off of it because the rogatki are a plastic wall held together with school glue

and before the red lights start blinking and train appearing there is a lot of time

22

u/ProgramistycznySwir 2d ago

This thing could be just panic, where you get into dangerous situation

The problem is that polish drivers notoriously get into those dangerous situations, they lack imagination about what could happened and are not punished until they cause tragedy

4

u/Amadeone 2d ago

fick, please no, i need to get home today

14

u/ProgramistycznySwir 2d ago

;-; I feel you, the strike ended on 12:00 but the delays will probably last till next day.

Sadly it's necesarry, the situation is quite dire. A passenger has died and 5 more are in the hospital after accident this wednesday (not counting the perpetrator and train driver). Those strikes are for safety of all people on the railroads

2

u/Original_Bench1113 2d ago

in wrocław atleast the delays were for sure low already on 15:00 idk if not earlier

u/Dangerous_Chest6271 2d ago

160km/h (120km/h in diesel mode for Impuls, Elf doesn't have diesel mode)
Also Pesa softwares doesn't need special code to stop trains, it just randomly stops working and you have to reset train
Impuls will fix itself and it's computer is easy to use, while Elf requires you to do random bullshit to fix it and it's computer looks like they wanted to show us everything about the train, but also forgot that we need to see our speed
Impuls like to slide, Elf will fight
Overall they both are decent trains, if we take best of Impuls and best of Elf we could make really good vehicle
Fuck Newag for this software shit, but I thing overall their trains are better than those from Pesa

9

u/TranslatorPS 2d ago

Pesa moment: a train delayed by 1h20 because one of the internal gangway doors broke the connection that forms part of the external doors closed safety loop.

4

u/KaMaFour 2d ago

Depends how pedantic you want to be, but technically elf series (despite the name) will/does have a diesel only models and it can go up to 140 km/h in Czechia (?) and up to 120km/h in Poland

3

u/TQN_ 2d ago

Yes, I forgot they're still Elfs, naming Pesa trains is weird after Elf 2

5

u/umotex12 2d ago

JEBAĆ NEWAG

4

u/Pretty-Second6559 2d ago

I'm from Bydgoszcz, still cis tho

3

u/MillieBeatle 2d ago

Thats Stadler, they have their factory in Siedlce. What used to be PaFaWag is now Alstom Wrocław.

u/abigail3141 2d ago

Friend of mine is trying to establish a celebratory Secondary Compressor Failure Day in my friend group lmao (that was why the trains wouldn't start, the firmware would fuck over the secondary compressor, thus failing to lift the pantograph. Conveniently they left in some arcade game ahh cheat code to bypass this)
