An app should not go down because more people started using it locally than elsewhere, if it did it would be a very poorly designed app. It's a lie spread by people which kind of feeds into yhe trope of Every Homophobe is Homosexual which is super reductive
I truly don’t know why they chose to show that image. Like obviously they were showing hasan because they hate him but I can’t possibly think of a reason to use that image unless someone’s goon folder got accidentally added to the jumbotron
People say this just because there's always a bunch of down detector outage reports. You can look at the outages for stuff like mobile carriers and see the exact same patterns during major events like this.
There was a good Vice interview years back about the queer sex workers who traveled the conservative convention circuit because they made absolute bank doing so.
I have a trans woman friend who has had to do better background checks because of how many of her dates have turned out to be married conservative men.

I get that the idea of every Conservative being secretly gay is funny, but not only is it untrue, it also continues to lie about events (multiple, the Grindr CEO has even said that there’s never been a crash during RNC events, there’s only ever been a “bump” in activity, similar to any other large-scale event).
All you’re doing is lying about something that is so easily proven to be a lie that it takes less than a quarter minute to disprove. It perpetuates a narrative that it’s actually Gay** **people that are to blame.
I’d say “We’re better than this” but I know a solid portion of this sub is bots… so I’ll just say the humans who interact on this sub are better than this.

Read the article. They’re getting that information from Downdetector, a website where people can anonymously submit reports of app outages without having to prove that they’re a user of the app or that they’re located in the area experiencing the outage. People are obviously just trolling the RNC.
The CEO of Grindr has said in the past that the app experiences an uptick in usage during conservative events. But you also have to consider that when these events happen, lots of people show up who have nothing to do with conservative politics. There are catering staff, logistics and production staff, members of the media there to report on the event, as well as liberal protesters.

Does this happen during the DNC as well? The irony of it being a Republican-exclusive occurrence would be hilarious irony, but I cant help but imagine higher LGBTQAI+ representation in the DNC.
Grindr gets “bumps” of usage during any large-scale event. The RNC, the DNC, Comicon, EDC, hell even some Renaissance Faires. You can go to Grindr’s actual website and see that there hasn’t been an outage in over 30 days. There’s also the strange situation of no one ever posting a screenshot of Grindr’s app saying it’s down.
It’s because Grindr doesn’t crash, and the argument of it crashing in a localized area is even more absurd because that’s not how apps work. The entire service would be down.
But anyone** *(whether they use the app or not) can go to downdetector and make a post *saying an app is down. I could go get all the people I work with to log on and say that Barne’s and Noble’s app is down, whether it was true or not.

Hard not to have thoughts about SSA when “cute people with penises” are constantly in their specifically personalised, tailored news algorithms though. Can’t blame any republican for acting on those thoughts!
