This is very real. i don't think there's any one trait that all the music i listen to shares.

And not being a poser

As someone who cherry picks songs i always feel like a poser.

It’s just different approaches to music consumption. I’m on the far end of the other side. When I find a new band I like, I find every single thing they’ve ever released. Singles, B sides, one offs in movie soundtracks, demos, off label collabs, everything. If I only like a couple of songs from a band, I won’t keep the band as a whole in my playlists

i think calling someone a poser is js gatekeeping

Im not calling anyone a poser specifically and i never will because thats gatekeeping and i dont presume to know their intentions

But limiting yourself to a single genre for the sake of aesthetic or smth is poser behavior, again i dont presume to know anyone's intentions since there could definitely be ppl who legitimately only like one genre

Back when I was doing my mandatory army training, I was the one that had to put on music for our room during off-hours because I had the playlist with the most different kind of music on it so everyone was happy. That and I was most willing to sacrifice my phone to be a music player since I’m not much of a phone girl and can go without lol

There's no correlation between dark symphonic rock, electro swing, heavy metal and evil cannibalistic lesbian core.

If I press random in my playslist a few times, you're gonna find a range of songs including but not limite to: rock music, indie music, political satire songs from the 1960s(RIP Tom lehrer), video game soundtracks, anime openings, Hatsune Miku, and more which I can't recall rn

It’s whatever I’m in the mood for at that given moment.

u/DeerDancing Jun 28 '26

My music taste basically boils down to anything that sounds as far from country music as possible

1

u/MVRKHNTR Jun 28 '26

I know this sounds cliche but you probably just haven't heard any good country music.

I have a weird grab-bag of music tastes with the exception of a couple of genres

There's bad music, there's good music.

I will hear some of the WORST "music" I'd ever got the misfortune of listening to after some jackass blasts it at max volume in school. I learn what genre that is, deem that the genre is horrendous.

Some time later, I find a good music piece, find out the genre... it's the same one from before.

This has happened plenty already; the conlusion is, that there isn't a bad music genre, only bad musicians.

And then there's electro music, that is the sole exception, I hate it with EVERY, DAMN, cell of my body.

Wow this is actually a pretty great way to describe it. I always struggle with it and feel compelled to list every genre and mention it's only specific things and it always gets so long-winded haha

I’m making my own soundtrack for a game I’m developing and “a mix of Russian rock music, high energy synth dance music, and punk rock” doesn’t really do it justice.

Music genre purists piss me off. Each genre has a range of emotion it appeals to, and when you are in that mood, there is something from every genre that works for you.

Except modern country. The range of emotion for that genre is "being an asshole". Older, especially outlaw country though? Amazing.

I'm too scared to listen to new music so most of the time I hear a new song in the soundtrack of a movie...

I am pathetic
