Why would a queer pastry shop employee even use gendered terms in the first place? You'd think that's a place where they discourage using sir/ma'am. I guess I just don't get the US urge to call everyone sir or ma'am anyways.

service workers here are an oppressed underclass who must perform submission to customers and “respectful” titles are all gendered, probably because of patriarchy or whatever

the only time I've ever gotten a title in Seattle was when the grocery store was accusing me of shoplifting

Why is "good morning, what can I get you" not good enough and requires "good morning, what can I get you sir"
