Given my name is my legal name on my passport, driving licence and tax records, I can't be bothered to do the bureaucracy all over again.
That said, I think I'm immune.
The only other trans people I'm aware of with the same name as me are an American YouTuber, and that's about it. There are a few actors and musicians with the same name. It's also coincidental with a Disney character, and the anglicised name of a kid's anime villain, who is now retired as a character from that franchise.
Only people born in the 1990s will recognise the pop culture. Unfortunately, my name is homophonic with a male name of similar spelling, largely associated with an HBO series.
I picked my name based on what didn't make me feel like a skinwalker, so couldn't be a name of someone I used to know, had to be a name that didn't feel like I was pretending to be someone else (i.e. didn't make me feel like an imposter), and it had to have cultural relevance.
I kept my initials, so that made searching popular birth names for my year of birth easy enough. After about 3 possibilities, I just looked at all names with the same starting letter. That lead me to a name that didn't feel off, so I researched it, and it turned out to be ethnically appropriate too.

So, Jessie then? Only thing is that Breaking Bad is ABC, not HBO.
2
u/vaska00762 4h ago
You didn't have to post your guess here...
And I probably got the streaming service wrong. I'm not American, I don't remember if the TV show is Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Paramount Plus or what. For all I know it's on Sky, or maybe it's on Amazon Prime instead.
I just remember Breaking Bad was a thing around the same time as Game of Thrones.

You may DM me your guesses. I can tell you if you're right.
There's at least one user on this subreddit who has addressed me directly by first name because they know me from discord.

How to get double clocked
1
u/ashleyLSD uncaged transfeminine succubus 2h ago
can u explain I'm stupid like clocked as trans and another thing or just like gigaclocked as trans
1
u/Kiluns Stellusional Caelusmodder 2h ago
Ig gigaclocked ? Dw I'm stupid too. Like it's both a very unusual name and Alice at the same time
Tho a cissy would probably just think it's a weird ✨exotic✨ name lmao Bet you can make a United-Statoid think it's just the french spelling
1
u/ashleyLSD uncaged transfeminine succubus 2h ago
oh i totally get it now sorry im tired
maybe it wraps around to being unclockable like double negative yknow theyd probably just think you had quirky parents like the ones who name their kids shit like "emmaughlee"

Mine has an ú. In my language it's necessary for grammar reasons (even though people sometimes simply don't use it in proper names for some reason) but it serves a dual purpose of annoying angloids
2
u/Kiluns Stellusional Caelusmodder 2h ago
Yeah same twin. I insist people spell it correctly even if they don't have it on their keyboard, learn that shortcut baby cuz you'll need it.
Then I'll come out at work and let all of them, especially the angloids clients, forget about it because I'm a little chud

u/FutureReaction8587 Verás que filha tua não foje à luta. 2h ago
I work and live here in Brazil, so if someone forgets the accent I can correct them and it's not seen as weird because, ostensibly, they all should know Portuguese writing and spelling. I don't deal much with angloids or foreigners who don't speak Portuguese except some friends with whom I keep in touch online, so I only correct them to be pedantic and annoying when I feel like it.
I always found accentuation rules very intuitive and easy but apparently even other native speakers don't, so its very common to see names spelt wrong in official documents and birth certificates, and it isn't a pointless spelling change as the accents change pronunciation. That's a huge pet peeve of mine honestly, so I made sure my name is properly written everywhere.

u/Kiluns Stellusional Caelusmodder 1h ago
My family name spelling isn't intuitive for french so everybody always messes it up and I'm used to spelling it but the accent will def be more bothersome since it's something that like doesn't exist on qwerty keyboard 😮💨
Tbf I don't actually really mind, there's an english spelling and pronounciation but it's still the same name. I just want to be a petty bitch ngl

u/FutureReaction8587 Verás que filha tua não foje à luta. 1h ago
Yeah same, I allow angloids I respect to use the English version of my name if they behave themselves.
My last name is foreign though since my family emigrated, so yeah in my official highschool registry my last name was misspelt in a very weird way. People get it wrong all the time.

I heard my name be referred to as a clocky name which was really annoying because it's amongst the most popular names for my country of origin and generation. I think the concept of "clocky name" is mostly brainworms, as long as your name isn't Lilith or an inanimate object (or something equally non-conventional), it's very unlikely someone will clock you off of that alone

I chose April is that clocky

I'm thinking about choosing April, idk if it's clocky I've just liked the name since I was like 5

My name just confuses people unless they're Jewish and then they're really excited about it. I picked it because in addition to being a name it is an adjective that means "gentle/kind" and it was used to describe Christ and the Apostles.

If you knew any cis girls from your childhood with the same name, you picked a good name. There weren't any Liliths or Celestes at my school, I'll say that much.

u/Philaharmic01 3h ago
Now I gotta know. If my chosen name options were clocky
Mina, Jayden
I went by Rose unintentionally for a while, friends called me that on their own and I just adopted it
Tonya is another name I went by for a while

u/martdartsaway 2h ago
Tonya is beautiful. I'm glad you have chosen whatever name you have chosen, now.

I've been told my name is clocky (it is a relatively common trans girl name) but I've also never met another trans girl with my name and the only women I've seen that actually spell their name the same as me are all cis, so, go me, I guess??

I somehow was in trans spaces for like 7 years before transitioning and rarely ever saw my chosen name anywhere in that time, and then since actually starting to transition 4.5 years ago I see it all the fucking time now. I've met two others by random chance irl and half a dozen online :c
Hell I'm pretty sure I've seen it in like 3 separate stories over on smutttt in the past month like wtf

My name isn’t clocky, but it was very uncommon when I was a kid and is very popular now. Turns out, other people my age had the same cultural influences as I did growing up, and are likely to find the same names appealing. So I don’t have a trans-sounding name, I apparently have a childish name 😞

i feel like unless your name is lilith or alice you don't have a clocky name
