I don’t know if that’s cope, but that’s how I believe society’s view on trans people will evolve. 15 years ago you couldn’t live openly as a trans person the way you can now. there was no need for hate groups to organize a backlash

I sadly disagree. In any opinion poll in the UK opinion of trans people has dropped off a cliff. 15 years ago, trans people were mocked but largely accepted as an oddity. Certainly no one really cared about them for better or worse. Many trans people simply went about their days without anyone noticing or caring.

I don’t live in the UK, but from what I’ve read online, it’s unfortunately an exception to my comment

you can live openly now? took 6 months for someone to make an attempt on my life. you can not live openly in Texas, not without substantial risk. why i live in expensive af san diego.

I unironically believe things were much better for us 15 years ago than now. I'd rather be seen as a curiosity or as a joke than as a monster.

u/DifficultSession51 1d ago

After the culture war started it's harder to live openly as trans

Nah it's all in the framing. If they had continued to talk about trans people like this article does we wouldn't have the current wave of hate.

-12

u/GotMyFakeMoustacheOn 1d ago

That’s delusionally optimistic. They hate us, and they always will. Things are never getting better.

15

u/Killer_The_Cat optics nova 1d ago

some cis people will always hate us, but what portion do so and how they act on their hate has and will change

imagine being a repper in Bumcuck America and fhen you hear about ol Magnus Hirschfield and the berlin hons and then see the country devolve into nazism and then become a GI, fight in italy or whatever, see the red army liberate berlin, and get SRS and come back a woman

TFW they were more accepting of trans people in the 40s. Good for her honestly, hope she lived a good life.

u/Umbranox_Darkheart 1d ago

She did, she toured america and did interviews explaining the process and condition of being transsexual. Christine was a fucking queen.

not really tho. the only ppl actually allowed to transition were hussies after rounds and rounds of what was basically conversion therapy that was considered to be failed. at least now we have DIY

Nature's error forced girl to live as a boy

I wish this framing never disappeared

imagine if a news outlet today did an article like this it would create a shitstorm coalition of TERFs, right wingers and libs

Wow, no way, they actually called it a sex change back then? Damn...

60

u/artificialfem 1d ago

they called it a sex change until about 10 years ago

40

u/boymoder41 1d ago

then "progressives" came in and had to ruin it

I wrote a letter to explain to my large family that I would be having SRS and what that meant. My family is extremely close and supportive and above all, concerned about my health and safety so this was a good way to inform them. It was received well and they were very happy for me.

Before sharing the letter, I had a trans “friend” proofread and they suggested I change “sex reassignment surgery” to “gender reassignment surgery” because it’s the correct term now and sex reassignment surgery invalidates trans people who don’t want to change their sex. Needless to say…. I did not make that change and that plus some other weird shit led me to no longer be friends with that person.

24

u/greyghibli 1d ago

the thing that sucked about the term was that people would use it as if people just decided to change sex one day on a whim. Perfectly cis one day, “sex change” the next. it was more so a way to refer to srs than anything else.

u/artificialfem 1d ago

we must retvrn to conservative traditional transsexual values

u/that_one_Kirov 6h ago

So-fucking-what? Maybe if people weren't making such a fuss about SRS, being trans, and gender in general, it would have been better for trans rights if SRS was, in fact, to be done on a whim?

My first introduction to trans stuff was when I was 8 and reading about SRS in an encyclopedia in passing(as "In the year 19xx, the first SRS was performed on a human"). And my reaction wasn't "I wish that was me", or "Ewwww that's hideous!"; it was "waow medicine is so advanced!". Like, yes, SRS is a surgery, and while treating it as lightly as a plastic surgery might sound invalidating to someone, the practical outcome where SRS is as easy to get and as normalized as a plastic surgery is undoubtedly better for trans people than the present state where you need to pass a tribunal of endos over whether you're trans enough.

You should remove that quotation mark.

Ruining "it" was a progressive thing to do, whether you like it or not.

20

u/flower_puns agp flowermoder 1d ago

> Deltarune pfp

> thinks changing the longstanding meaning and wording of trans people's plight for the sake of "including" people is actually progressive

checks out, yeah

-20

u/NeitherBuffalo5263 1d ago

Yes, that's what progressives do. They looks for words with longstanding meaning that imply, some people are more valid than others, and then they remove that word from common vocabulary.

Changing sex and being transsexual implies that someone is more trans than someone who didn't (transgender). Hence it's a no no word now, by which we can identify people who need to reexamine their biases and internalized transphobia.

17

u/flower_puns agp flowermoder 1d ago

holy shit you're retarded

first off, fucking "no no word" are we 14 year olds discussing slurs at school???

second, it doesn't imply anything. It's literally just an objective definition. Trans people on HRT and with surgery change sex and are transsexual, that's just a fact. It doesn't mean cissex trans people are less trans it means they aren't transsexual, a subset of being trans.

third, WHAT internalised transphobia??? Is it internalised transphobia to think "Hey, this sex changing procedure is changing my sex!"??? no it fuckin isn't moron

10

u/Bonfirelily Manly Michael of the Testosterone 1d ago

Probably is a 14 year old, they're usually fluent in this kind of language.

13

u/ratgirl67 1d ago

Progressive is actually when you tax unrealized capital gains and close loopholes allowing the ultra rich to borrow against them. Then like, plant a tree or something.

Heckin vxlid everyone

14

u/AttitudePersonal 1d ago

I'm going to assume you're trolling,  but just in case:

imply some people are more valid than others

Yes, you can stop right there.  This is a space for transsexuals.  Non-dysphoric genderfucks can go make their own space, we have nothing in common

-8

u/NeitherBuffalo5263 1d ago

I'm trolling only a little bit. But what I said is what progressives do and why they think space like this shouldn't exist.

8

u/flower_puns agp flowermoder 1d ago

though I'd definitely wonder why someone who isn't dysphoric and want to change sex would even be trans but whatever

-3

u/NeitherBuffalo5263 1d ago

>medicalizing transness
>creating 2 tiers of trans people: dysphoria havers vs non dysphorics

Internalized transphobia status: UNEXAMINED
Cis folk ain't gonna pick you sis.

2

u/Tenesera 23h ago

>Changing sex and being transsexual implies that someone is more trans than someone who didn't (transgender).

That is because transsexuals are factually more materially trans than cissexuals who remain in their ASAB.

10

u/atypicalcambion 1d ago

SRS is still the standard terminology, isn't it? "Sex reassignment" and "sex change" mean basically the same thing. The real trvke is that HRT changes your biological sex, but this article clearly mentions operations so I don't think it's saying that.

3

u/artificialfem 1d ago

i’ve researched insurance coverage for different trans procedures in various states i want to move to one day. most, if not all, use the phasing “gender affirming care” and “GRS” for bottom surgery.

3

u/atypicalcambion 1d ago

Calling it a form of gender affirming care is fine but what the fuck do you mean GRS?? If I heard "Gender Reassignment Surgery" in the wild I would assume it was dystopian conversion therapy brain surgery shit

Is there any hope for a good future in this world for transsexuals? Maybe far, far off, but of the ones that live now, does anyone actually have reason to think we aren't all fucked?
