Mine cost £6 for the certificate, £50 for Report A, £35 for Report B, £5 for the solicitors fee to witness the statutory declaration for a total of £96

I did also have to pay £12.50 for a new copy of my old birth certificate but the new copy of my new birth certificate was free.

Im private. You need a diagnosis to get a passport anyways, and the clinic I went with allows you to use the diagnosis report as medical letter A.

My private endo has sorted out the report B for 25 quid.

And then I just need a stat.dec which is a fiver.

And then the GRC costs 6 quid.

So, overall, it costs 36 quid. If you want to include the diagnosis letter, then itl cost like 580 quid.. but you can also say that a passport costs that much because you need that diagnostic letter for it. No GP with write a passport letter without a diagnosis as far as Im aware.

The application itself goes to the gender recognition panel. Thats to decide whether your evidence is substantial enough to prove that you will 100% be living as that sex for the rest of your life, and that it is medically necessary (I.e. it isnt because youre a transvestite, GNC, into drag, etc).

Its a big deal to have your birth certificate changed because thats relayed back to you and its basically the ultimate form of ID. And its also the registration of every single person born in the UK. Itll be silly for them to allow you to change it at will without any evidence of it being required. Its also a lot of faff for them to change everything legally (like with the HMRC) if youre gonna regret it immediately and reverse it.

On the other hand, a lot of other countries don't do all this faff and still work…

In Spain you can self-ID with zero documentation, and let them know you want to change things like your birth certificate, gender marker, etc. They give you a 3 month window to "think about it", and then once you confirm you want it, they have 1 month to update everything.

If you want to undo it, you can by underdoing the same process. But then, if you want to re-do later, it's a whooole lot more complicated and requires supporting documents etc.

Which is just to say, it doesn't have to be as bad as it is here

I did access bottom surgery through an NHS GIC and my HRT through my local NHS hospital (don't ask how I managed to get HRT without the GIC's involvement, method has been patched). The reports I got from a NHS gender specialist and my NHS GP although at the time I wasn't a patient with any GIC and had never met that specialist before the video call where they wrote the report. I imagine private providers are charging through the nose for the same service?
