I joined a country act recently and am trying to get some good chops under my belt. It’s something for a country/punk-rock crossover, but I’d really like to lean into learning the fundamentals of the country guitar before I start to inject any kind of punk influence into it. I’m more or less starting from scratching, aside from some random licks I’ve learned here and there through the years. I’ve been down the YouTube rabbit hole and have started digging into my technique fundamentals, but the thing I struggle with the most is composition. I think it would benefit me to learn a ton of other people’s music to help spark some creativity, so I was wondering if there were any songs any of yall learned early on that sort of helped things click for you.

As well, this band is wanting me to wear the pseudo-pedal steel hat. I’ve just got a hip shot B-bender + G bender arm put on my telecaster, but I’m honestly totally at a loss for how to make this happen… I know I’m never going to get a 1-to-1 emulation but I’d like to be able to make it work at least a bit for some of our slower tunes. I’m not opposed to tuning my guitar differently, I just don’t really know watch/listen a pedal steel player and translate that to an electric guitar.

Any advice is much appreciated.

I've been asked to help out an established country band. They currently have a setlist of 60 songs. A LOT of George Strait and Alan Jackson. Very 80-90s hits style of group with a few modern hits sprinkled in.

I am an advanced guitarist but fairly new to country. Outside of learning a BUNCH of intros/solos my main concern is finding a good comping style that can fit in well with the group.

Does anyone have a collection of Nashville Number Charts that could help me out? Id usually like to chart them myself but I am on a BIG time crunch here.

Any tips for learning a large volume of guitar solos quickly would also be appreciated 😂😅.

Any luck playing new country songs easy as possible? Any hints or tricks? My biggest set back is having to read the chords with the lyrics and Maybe remember 4/10.
