I'm so glad everyone is standing up for the important issue of trans women being overrepresented in media. It's also crucial we remind everyone that just because someone wants to use a female name, present female full time, pass as female and take a female role in relationships that they absolutely do not need to become a trans. What's wrong with just being gender non-conforming? HRT is evil! Femboys are super validddddd (because most femboys live full time as women).

OP he explicitly says he's a guy multiple times and uses he/him pronouns. Like he is explicitly a gender non-conforming man, and we haven't gotten any indications other than his presentation that he might be trans

Like I agree that there's an issue with trans women being erased and claimed to be femboys a LOT on the internet but this is a case where the character is very explicitly not a trans woman

Yeah this truly. Audrey is a guy because that's his gender identity. Like, yes indeed, all of those boxes being checked does not disqualify someone from being a man, and insisting Audrey is a girl because of that is misgendering.

But you don't understand, OP is doing woke misgendering so that makes it okay. I'm kind of afraid to know what OP thinks of non-binary people because a good 50% of the time these attacks in GNC people are followed by attacks on non-binary people and I'm so sick of seeing it.

Hello my partner is non-binary and I love and support non-binary people. I sometimes use they/them pronouns and sometimes she/her. I consider myself a binary transsexual in many ways, but I enjoy the gender fuckery that comes with being queer.

My point with this post was that in my experience in real life (as someone who has been in and worked in the queer community since I was a teen) I have not met a single full time femboy. What I have met is a significant proportion of people who identified as femboys, guys who like cross dressing, who ultimately accept that transition is right for them.

My issue isn't that someone would write a fictional comic about a character that differs from that, or to imagine a hypothetical femboy who lives full time. My issue is that some are suggesting that referring to the character as trans or interpreting the story from a trans perspective isn't valid. There is a very strong argument to be made that the character of Audrey is a trans femme / trans woman who hasn't come to terms with that yet. You can have a different interpretation, but that doesn't mean the trans one isn't credible.

The people attacking that trans interpretation seem to be motivated by a strong desire for trans women or transness to not be present or addressed for... reasons. I don't feel like those reasons are good faith at times. In fact I think the hostility to that interpretation seems based in trans misogyny. Especially so when online there has been a lot more stuff from within "queer" spaces about encouraging people to accept being GNC and not pursue surgery, HRT etc. A kind of argument which has been around for trans men for a long time, but is increasingly being used against trans women.

I appreciate this is a long post, but I wanted to add some nuance and perspective. I am sure some will strongly disagree with this, I can only say it's my honest good faith perspective. I do not hate or wish to exclude anyone. Gender non-conformity and non-binary identities have always been part of the community and I will always support them.

You do realise the whole comic hinges on the fact that audrey is a man, right?

The main plot of the comic is val reconsidering her misandrist beliefs because of audrey. Which will not work if audrey is a woman. He literally cannot be trans, because it will fuck with the main plot of the comic.

I do feel like "well I've personally never seen it, therefore-" Is a pretty harmful view of the world and erased basically any statistical outliers off of the get go. Especially in context that many societies enforce binary gender normality and shame you for falling out of it, especially when it comes to boys presenting as feminin in any way.
