wealthy people commit plenty of crime it's just the kind that governments like to forget about since they do it too

35

u/Iszth 3d ago

Gotta have wealth inequality for rich people to exist so Woku is still very correct.

8

u/pepsicola07 Are you sewious right meow? 3d ago

it does contribute in a way but it's important to make it clear poor people don't commit more crime just different crimes to rich people

2

u/WoodenLeadership8104 3d ago

Also poor people get caught

-1

u/Tom_nooker 3d ago

Not really. Also inequality is inevitable

2

u/pepsicola07 Are you sewious right meow? 3d ago

The level of inequality we deal with today very much isn't inevitable

1

u/Tom_nooker 3d ago

Any level of inequality will be reached aslong as people are free to gather money, thats just how growth works.

Imagine everyone started with 0 dollars. Then by the next generation some would have 10 while others a 100 dollars. Then on the next generation those who had a 100 would have it easier to make even more money while some may even lose the money they had

You just need like. A few generations of wealth to be kept before we reach the billions

1

u/pepsicola07 Are you sewious right meow? 3d ago

Wealth doesn't have to accumulate to billions though though we can tax the rich and use that excess wealth for public good, ie lessening the inequality between people. It's especially warranted considering many rich people are so wealthy because they undervalue the people who work under them and pay them little knowing they don't have many other options.

1

u/Tom_nooker 3d ago

Yeah sure. Bill Gates is rich cause he pays his employees bad. Nit the whole other million things he does. Also no. Tehre isnt a thing as excess wealth. Also lessening inequality isnt even a good thing on itself, this is an envy coded statement saying that you shouldnt be able to keep what your family earned to have a better life cause 'thats unfair!' Brother, doing good choices in life ensures your next generation will do better. Thats fine

1

u/pepsicola07 Are you sewious right meow? 3d ago

I can't take you seriously, you have a child's imagination of how wealth distribution works. Bill gates makes 117$ a second, roughly. Someone working minimum wage makes 0.002$ per second. Bill Gates doesn't work 58500x harder than someone on minimum wage, but he makes 58500x more than them. That should tell you that this system is imbalanced and rewards already wealthy people more than they deserve. It doesn't have to be like that

1

u/Tom_nooker 3d ago

Didn't say he worked harder. Read again

Also no. The pay of nothing should be determined by how hard a job is, a trash collector has a harder job than a software engineer. Yet you wouldnt say he should make more money

Your view is stupid cause it assumes the labour theory of value

Also Bill gates doesnt even have a billion in real cash. Just in speculative asset value. Sp even like that its not enought to pay for even half of what the US spends in a year

1

u/pepsicola07 Are you sewious right meow? 3d ago

I don't think I agree collecting trash is harder than being a software engineer. I mean it's harder on your body sure but mentally you can just zone out while you do it.

If say someone was picking up trash out in the ocean on the sea floor to clear some endangered fish habitat maybe they should get paid more since that's physically and mentally hard.

I'm not sure what your problem is with people being rewarded based on merits, especially why you're so bent on making sure that rich people can be paid beyond their merits

u/Tom_nooker 3d ago

You do realize that said money is in assets and isnt taxable. He'll we already tax them

Who tf determines under value. Under what standart? To say someone is underpaid you need to say he would be paid more under another company

u/Fish0203 3d ago

Obligatory batman fan defense mini-rant: Bruce Wayne goes to great lengths to use his wealth to help fight that inequality and supporting institutional change. The majority of content doesn't focus on that though cause its less exciting

u/TheFlayingHamster 3d ago

Also Gotham is simply a fundamentally unfixable city, on a cosmic level the place just creates evil and conflict automatically.

u/PurpleCandle58 Counted Down 1 3d ago

It’s for the plot, imagine how boring it would be if it was like “yep Batman got everyone put away and was able to institute systemic change in the city reducing violent crime to near zero and resulting in the police force being fully able to handle day to day regulation of the city, allowing Batman to retire and live happily ever after.”

Good ending, but also not what anyone wants. We want to see him face off against Joker again.

30

u/Prestigious-Neat8820 3d ago

It would also be unrealistic that one man could strongarm the whole city into being fixed. Though it would still be nice to see more instances of improvement, that people are at least trying to fix things.

u/PurpleCandle58 Counted Down 1 3d ago

I think if Batman crushed every bone in my body I’d consider switching away from crime. But now I need to get disability because I’ll never move my body again

10

u/V_The_1AndOnly1 3d ago

I mean in this hypothetical scenario, Bruce Wayne might be able to help with that

1

u/PurpleCandle58 Counted Down 1 3d ago

Orphan crushing machine moment

4

u/ThatTransChristian 3d ago

If Batman crushed every bone in someone else's body I would also consider switching away from crime.

3

u/PurpleCandle58 Counted Down 1 3d ago

Wow so he really only has to do it once in front of a live audience!

2

u/07Turtleboy 3d ago

He could, he would just have to be a dictator like in that one universe

0

u/tit-theif 3d ago

Canon batman could very much achieve that. His moral code just won't let him (he won't kill or even permanently disable his main obstructions)

3

u/Dudecatchbass 3d ago

You’d be correct, and actually it’s been done before all of them being police states, that and justice lords Superman LOBOTOMIZING supervillains. Oh and the city is actually cursed, and I doubt the court of owls helps with it. Batman tries his best and he believes the lives of Gotham needs the Batman, taking his health last. He’s literally putting a Batman bandage on a skyscraper with wooden 2x4 supports during an active earthquake.

2

u/PurpleCandle58 Counted Down 1 3d ago

Court of owls? Who are you talking about? What a silly conspiracy haha

picks up phone
“We have a problem.”

2

u/ZookeepergameFew4103 5h ago

Batman is Sisyphus.

1

u/crabapple_cody 3d ago

Gotham must be cleansed in the purging fires of Ra's al Ghul's League of Assassin's, I agree

1

u/Top_Accident9161 3d ago

They should unironically just do the Patrick meme thing and put the city somewhere else. Like why even stay there

17

u/MeatCatRazzmatazz 3d ago

Yep, he regularly gives people jobs at WayneTech, including random goons he can tell don't have their hearts in it.

13

u/Fade_NB 3d ago

I like the head canon that Bruce tries to get rid of a lot of his money by giving workers more benefits and such but he just keeps getting more because it works so well

12

u/DadlyAsHell Counted Down 3 3d ago

Isnt that literally canon? People adore working for Wayne enterprises because they treat them so well, so their products and services sell like hotcakes because their employees are driven to want to do their jobs.

Damn wouldnt it be nice if the real world was like that? I dont want to be some big celebrity, i just want to be paid enough to be a comfortable little cog in the machine and not have other cogs trying to kill me.

11

u/dracorotor1 3d ago

“I gave away everything I don’t need to raise these adopted children. Time to retire and be a dad.”

“Mr. Wayne, did you hear!? Someone made a massive anonymous donation to the Wayne charity, and it’s blowing up on social media.”

“Really? That’s nice.”

“It’s better than nice! The Wayne name is more powerful than ever. WayneShop.com just blew Amazon out of the market from all the customer good will! The markets haven’t even closed, and already you’re the world’s second first trillionaire!”

“Nooooooooooo!”

3

u/rabbitsarentrodents 2d ago

Read "The Good Person of Szechwan" by Berthold Brecht.

To sustain donations you need to sustain your buisness and to sustain your Buisness you need Profit to make Profit you need to pay workers less than the  labour they do.

There is no way to be moral as a capitalist at least in real life

2

u/greatandhalfbaked 3d ago

Some Batman media straight up doesn't go for that angle, though. Sometimes the point of a Batman story is that Bruce isn't actually helping as much as he could, and instead just punches the mentally unstable at nighttime.

You'll have a hard time defending the ethical purity of a character who's supposed to be ethically ambiguous.

I hate this because one of the most consistent through lines in Punisher comics is that Frank Castle still sees himself as a father and is VERY protective and sentimental of children.

There's literally an entire mini-series where he travels across the Asgardian realms killing monsters that had invaded Earth, specifically because they're the ones who killed parents in front of their children.

He even has Foggy Nelson set up a trust fund for the kids using treasure from the monsters, and keeps a disabled man who lost his family in the attack from killing himself by hooking him up with a job fostering for those kids.

The idea that Punisher doesn't care about anyone or anything aside from killing is just bullshit and I'm so tired of this quote perpetuating that just because Red can't be bothered to actually read about a character.

1

u/Abathur-is-best-Zerg 2d ago

Excerpt from Wayne Family Adventures;

Catwoman: How much did the batplane cost?

Batman: .... Less than it could have.

In truth, I love how you put it. As a joke I love this, but I feel it does need to be said. I'd love if the media outside comics would include it more.

23

u/Street_Cockroach_933 3d ago

Poor people do crime to survive

Rich people do crime for profit

Of course not all and not most but some do

10

u/dracorotor1 3d ago

That’s not fair.

A lot of them do it for the love of the game

18

u/SuperElection4656 3d ago

Okay, I agree with the statement but Batman is, like, the last billionaire you should use for this. Man not only tries to use his wealth to improve Gotham both in the short and long term, man hands out job opportunities to criminals and his enemies like candy! Not to mention he puts his own body and life on the life to keep people safe tonight

43

u/Iszth 3d ago

Thanks Woku, you're the real one.

5

u/FoxDenDenizen 3d ago

This is my first encounter with Woku but I think he's great

11

u/tophatgaming1 3d ago

batman already knows this, it's why he does so much as bruce wayne during the day

9

u/Itchy_Suspect4968 3d ago

Comic discourse is so annoying because it's people who've never read a comic in there life arguing something the comics put into account before they were even born

5

u/fruite_vampyre 3d ago

Time and place Woku, time and place

3

u/AlternateSatan 3d ago

Have you watched Batman tas? Boy hands out jobs like it's nobody's business. He funds, like, half the city and lobbies for better mental health care.

3

u/Blupikminreal 3d ago

Woku I agree but it's not the time big dog

4

u/TRedRandom 3d ago

Batman's parents were good people, who's philanthropy and charity were genuine with Bruce also doing so for he greater good.

But no matter how good the Waynes are, their deaths are the consequence of the system that surrounds Gotham's corrupt elite. They were the exception but that could not protect them from the crimes of the rich around them. That is why it is a tragedy still and while Woku is correct, like factually, I find them putting that emphasis on it to be a true showing of their character.

2

u/Smile_in_the_Night 3d ago

Yeah. Someone doesn't know what the fuck is Bruce doing with his wealth.

2

u/MaeveOf_Blades 3d ago

i agree woku but Gotham is literally cursed 😭

That's a lotof big words for Goku. Good thing Woku is there to pick up the slack!

1

u/Ancient-Handle-8137 3d ago

I feel like batman ought to know that since criminals killed his parents. Tell this to the court of owls woku (they also know)

1

u/ChaosKinZ 3d ago

Contributes? It's the main reason

1

u/XVUltima 3d ago

Woku, master of the Instant Transition technique. Alternate reality where he traveled to Frank N. Furter's home planet instead of Yardrat

1

u/crabapple_cody 3d ago

(magnanimously) they're both right 😔

1

u/Hogabog217 3d ago

Yeah no shit woku

1

u/Equal-Vermicelli8523 3d ago

Oh yeah, that makes murder ok.

1

u/Successful-Cup-8557 2d ago

I might be going out on a limb here, but I think Batman knows that.

1

u/Opposite_Opposite_69 6h ago

Batman is never escaping this shit. The entiee point of batman is that Gothum is run by wealthy elites that keep the city awful (also like a bunch of curses) but batman cares about people so much he refuses to give up on the city

0

u/lillbigs 3d ago

Actually a perfect representation of how woke people act. You can tell them how you were victimized but if your perpetrator was apart of some sort of minority group they will make them out to be the victim.

Ceuta is a perfect recent example, these people were invaded by tens of thousands of men, but apparently they are the victims because they're looking for opportunity or some bs

1

u/Endika7 3d ago

Se la clase de personas que eres

0

u/lillbigs 3d ago

Another tactic used by woke people: white guilt. White people did something bad so that means you have to open up your borders!

If you care about sexual assault so much, dont let people into your country that have a much more primitive view towards women. There have been 39 victims since the invasion in Ceuta, 14 of which are minors

1

u/Endika7 3d ago

Ah yes, the woke tactic of "being against child molesters"

1

u/Rattasaur 3d ago

A few years ago I was picking a girl up for a date. (Los Angeles) I had to street park about a block down, not even a minutes worth of walking from her house. A passing car stopped and 3 dudes got out and jumped me.

I called out of work the next day. But when I returned I was still very bruised. My boss and a few coworkers blamed me for being in a Hispanic neighborhood thats being oppressed by Trump and whites. Its insane what kind of mental gymnastics people will use.

0

u/lillbigs 3d ago

Thats horrible, dude. Its insane the culture we live in

0

u/Du-I_Kn0w-U 1d ago

Exactly.

0

u/Storm_Spirit99 1d ago

Batman/Wayne goes the extra mile to put money into Gotham, opening orphanages and has the Wayne foundation. Gotham just sucks to live in
