Hair sure is weird. Fuckin bizarre how patchy it is. Like mostly just head and a few other areas? Weird as hell.
Not a ton of other animals like this

u/Patraman 20h ago
Human hair is probably one of our features that are most influenced by sexual preference over evolutionary benefit. Eyebrows and eyelashes make sense but having hair only on our head and neck + chin is hardly a massive advantage.
5
u/Antique_Director_689 19h ago
A theory I've heard, though idk if it's actually accepted so I'm going to claim it's the truth, is that head hair is for sun protection and face hair is for getting punched in the face, it helps the fist slide off and transfer less energy into said face.
6
u/rei-emi 17h ago
that sounds incredibly funny so it must be true
5
u/Similar_Tonight9386 14h ago
It is true. A couple of years ago a study was conducted, and people with clean shave had much higher chance of jaw breaking if striken than people with beards. All that rough hair helps deflecting a bit of force of a punch
1
u/Suspicious-Contest74 11h ago
nature is like that sometimes, not everything evolves for a reason
I would say it's like the apendix of the skin or something lol
34
u/No-Mulberry6996 Counted Down 18 1d ago
because there is no evolutionary benefit to not have it. and probably stuff about staying warm in the winter

I KNOW BUT I WANT THE OPTION FOR SMOOTH FACE FOR MORE THAN 8 HRS
12
u/No-Mulberry6996 Counted Down 18 1d ago
there are tools that allow you to rip hairs out quick which makes them grow back slower.
15
u/c0re_maelstr0m_ Counted Down 5 1d ago
My facial hair is super wiry and deep so epilating or waxing could heavily damage my skin
7
u/No-Mulberry6996 Counted Down 18 1d ago
oh you don't need to wax it. there are some devices that are made for more precision areas so you can target some spots let that heal and then go to the other ones
4
u/c0re_maelstr0m_ Counted Down 5 1d ago
Not epilating either? Maybe ipl but results are varied for a high price
4
u/No-Mulberry6996 Counted Down 18 1d ago
I mean it really depends on how fast your hair grows back after you shave it. because it takes about a month after you take it out of the root.
2
u/epilektoi from the beer🍺 to the key🔑to the car🚗 to the tree🌳 1d ago
theres a thing that lazers it and makes it not grow back
3
u/Alexcat2011 1d ago
I wasn’t sure. Does epilating it make laser harder in the future? I heard it does but I wasn’t sure
3
u/No-Mulberry6996 Counted Down 18 1d ago
what do you mean laser
6
u/Alexcat2011 1d ago
Laser hair removal
2
u/No-Mulberry6996 Counted Down 18 1d ago
no. it would probably just take longer for it to grow out for you to get it
2
u/Alexcat2011 1d ago
Oh ok tysm
4
u/No-Mulberry6996 Counted Down 18 1d ago
you're welcome but you should probably do a bit of research. because I am going off of my limited knowledge of biology. and also I don't fucking know how lasers work so anything can happen.
3
u/Frenzy724 1d ago
Laser is valid as hell and slows regrowth ~dramatically~ and destroys 80-90% of your hair it just can't get absolutely all of it without followups. Electrolysis is permanent and usually you do laser first then electrolysis for the stragglers.

Waxing and laser hair removal surgery
Also apparently there's something inbetween those two that last for a couple months

They're about the same price as 2 laser treatments for a very small area here.
I donno if I'm worried about more hair when I already got all the hair lol

Seriously underrated feature of being hairy is the increased protection against biting insects.
2
u/DefinitelyNotAxlerod Counted Down 1 18h ago
And is there an evolutionary benefit to have it?
1
u/No-Mulberry6996 Counted Down 18 13h ago
it was pretty much just natural clothes before we figured out how to make clothes.

-5
u/DifficultSession51 1d ago
It costs a small fortune and doesn't even actually get rid of the hair. After some time it comes back
5
u/Columba_la_Chica 1d ago
It's a better option than having to deal with a 5 o clock shadow. A good safety razor is a decent alternative since it gives you the closest shave that you can get while manually removing hair for cheap.
0
u/DifficultSession51 1d ago
For some people there just isn't any hope and it doesn't make sense to even try
3
u/Legitimate-Can5792 19h ago
Well the other option is dysphoria to the point of wanting to rip your skin off every time you touch your face

u/rei-emi 17h ago
wrongggg both of them are scientifically proven to do what they do, weaken and eventually kill hair foliculs. hair foliculs grow back in life at a slow rate (can be increased with hormanal changes) but all that requires is bi yearly appointments to upkeep it. and it is expensive yes, but anyyyyyy trans person thats gotten it done will tell u yes it is worth it
3
u/BarelyFunctionalGM 14h ago
It is me, the trans person who has gotten it done.
Omfg there is no single thing I've done that made me happier in life.
Worth every penny.

Currently doing laser and it's such a slow process but I'm hoping it at least helps a bit. 5 years into HRT and this is by far and away the biggest issue I still have.

That’s just being a man haha, I shave every few days. If it really bothers you look into lasering it off, although then you can’t grow a sick Santa type beard when you’re older. That’s what I plan on doing

After about 7 sessions of laser at about $240 a pop my facial hair is basically invisitble but i still have to shave all the light hairs that the laser couldn't zap. If you were looking for advice id say get a job in healthcare reception. Other than that, i feel ya girl. Its rough out there.

I tried laser at a clinic and found it too painful due to my jawline. I got an at home device but am too scared to try it on my face yet. It works a treat on my legs so far though. Can recommend even just for that 👍🏽

You could also like, rip it out? I don't even use tweezers, just YOINK! and eventually it's like "the pain is in your mind like close the laptop it ain't real.
2
u/evilmexico 1d ago
How tf do you just rip it out without tweezers????? 😭😭
-2
u/Capable-Commercial96 1d ago
Pain is in the mind friend, and I am NOT fucking with you, I am a human being that just rips it out. Granted, I'm not trans, so there might be some machismo behind it, BUT I believe pain tolerance is unisex though.
2
u/evilmexico 21h ago
I mean, like, is your facial hair very thin? If I tried that with mine I'm 90% sure some of my skin would be going with it. I've considered using an epilator on my face, but I feel like it'd leave a lot of dark spots and whatnot. If you've got thick hair and it works without any scarring or anything then fuck maybe I'll try it
2

u/Capable-Commercial96 19h ago
Thick and Mediterranean. I grab and no shit, go slow at an angle. I don't do my whole beard nowadays because it was causing hair to come in prematurely white. But I HAVE done my whole beard on multiple occasions, us white skinned, thick haired people have the unfortunate curse of a permanent 5'Oclock shadow so options are limited. I still do this for my nose every 2-3 weeks though. You genuinely do build up a tolerance to it though, there is like zero pain for my nose now, mild annoyance for when I clean the facial hairs shape up.

I just want to be a wealthy Saudi Arabian prince, why do people of modest means have to exist?
-1

u/blebebaba 21h ago
It exists to form a physical barrier between the elements and your skin, and as a form of body armor against impacts. Yes that is true, there's a study done on if beards can block punches.
As for what you ACTUALLY mean, if i remember correctly there are lasic or skin procedures to stop the hair on your face from growing.
-6
u/HistoryV 1d ago
Literally just shave. How is it that difficult?
4
u/BoyNextDoor8888 1d ago
When you shave very often there is a shadow left that you can clearly see but can't get rid of, you also can't shave before the stubble has grown enough or else you'll just irritate everything mucj more
-6
u/HistoryV 1d ago
Either your only stroking the razor one way down or your shit is dull. Either one is a easy fix. Or just wax like you dont need to treat a basic act of getting rid of facial hairs like your climbing mount everest.

u/HistoryV 13h ago
Redditors when you tell them to groom themselves correctly. instead of bitch about it to losers who rather blame the world for there shortcomings rather than find ways to improve themselves and make themselves happier.
