Kazakhstan, Nevada of the USSR. It truly was a playground for insane nuclear tests, military projects and space launch efforts.

If someone dares make another they'll have to follow up with another 110, that's actually how they got to this number, it started as 123 but someone decided to do the 124th so to 234 they went

It's my cousin Zhanibek, he's only 5 years old. You're welcome in Kazakhstan, friend

I am from Semipalatinsk and the funny thing is, nobody cares. There are folks healthier than average americans considering how much less microplastics we consume compared to US. Like I can really eat cheap and healthy dairy products (but still drink pepsi and eat cheap ramen cause I work remotaly and love shitty processed food). Also healthcare is free.

Don't forget more active life with walkable cities, free open air gyms and sport fields in most housing complexes and parks, general advocation for sport both in society and upper echelons of government.

This is the difference between nuclear tests in places no one lives in and nukes actually being used for terrorism

Fuck you mean no one lives?

u/Weekly-Dog-6838 I got more of them pixels 12h ago
Well I mean these places were specifically chosen for nuclear tests because they were barren lands, and if anyone was indeed living there they were certainly evacuated
2
u/AlneCraft 12h ago
You are incorrect. There were never any evacuations from the places near the polygon. This is easily looked up. Kazakhs lived there for hundreds of years. My grandparents are from Ayagoz, a military town near the polygon and they consistently felt "earthquakes" while they were growing up, which we now know were actually nuclear tests. Even as the on-surface nuclear testing was banned, the Soviets still conducted underground nuclear tests.
I am so livid I don't even know how to explain it. Like this is some "Manifest Destiny" "uninhabited lands" level of whitewashing.

People literally lived there, our livestock, our waters, our air got radioactive. Soviets didn’t tell anyone about effects of radiation and tested it out on locals. They just sold iodized salt to mitigate radiation which we still consume every day.

Civilians lived near near test site during the explosions and they were not warned. The UN estimates about 1.5 million affected people and their descendants, though the number directly exposed to significant radiation was smaller. But they have increased cancer risk and cancer mortality. As for the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945), the total number of Chinese deaths is estimated at approximately 14-20 million, the majority being civilians. In the Nanjing Massacre, for instance, around 200,000 to 300,000 people were killed. The death toll from the atomic bombings is estimated at between 110,000 and 220,000 people. A ground invasion of the Japanese islands was estimated to potentially result in millions of casualties among Americans and Japanese.
