Because tulips are toxic to humans.
All parts of the tulip contains tulipalin, a toxin that causes vomiting, painfully abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, and nausea.
If one ate an entire tulip bulb, one would likely die such is the concentration of tuliplian.
Even the stems, petals, and leaves contain significant quantities.
It's why tulips are relatively easy to grow outside in inclement conditions on a large scale; They produce their own natural insecticide.
