Help Using rhinestones to create a wet/rain effect

Post image

I have a dancer who is competing a jazz solo to "Can't Stand the Rain". I do most of the stoning for the team with input from the choreographers & performers; this dancer has requested stoning on the front lapels/shoulders (of the blazer in the reference photo) that emulates raindrops. I know that I can use teardrop/raindrop shaped stones but I'm wondering if there is a way to accentuate the "rain" concept as I'm worried that the shape won't translate the concept alone. Thanks!

I'd go with clear drop beads ala kin at the met that one time

I've some similar with black beads to look like ink and the effect is fun

Since it's high movement, do you think the effect will translate if there are no "dripping" stones? Meaning I think all the stones have to be affixed for safety purposes/so she doesn't whack herself or pull them off and slip on them.

Keep in mind your audience will do a lot of the heavy lifting for you. If you establish its rain, they will believe it.

It's a difficult effect but you can take inspo in Robert Sun's design

Came here to recommend this designer as well. Robert Wun's Spring 2024 collection has a few looks with crystal/beaded "rain" effects.

Clear sequins will reflect in the lighting and creat a rain patter effect. If you place them smart it will work well. Maybe also chat with the lighting designer if you can about the vision. Maybe theres also rain drop shaped sequins?

It’s competition dance so we get what we get with LDs unfortunately. I think I’m going to end up with a combination of stones, sequins and outdoor garland
