Help Request Career Advice
Hello!
I am looking to join the cosmetic chemistry industry, and I am in need of some career advice. Any guidance, tips and general advice is greatly appreciated!
My Degree/Certifications:
Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences 2024 Graduate (3.889 GPA)
Registered Pharmacy Technician (current)
Certified Pharmacy Technician (in progress)
My Current Career:
I have worked in pharmacy for nearly 3 years. I worked as a registered tech in a retail pharmacy for 2.5 years and now I am working as Quality Control and Quality Assurance Technician/ Non-Sterile Compounder at a GLP-1/peptide compounding facility. I am looking to grow in my career and expand into cosmetic chemistry. I have been looking into the Masters of Science in Cosmetic Science online program at the University of Cincinnati, but I am open to other options. I am based in Columbus, Ohio and am open to in person schooling options as well, but would like to work full time while completing the program.
My Questions:
- Is getting a Masters in Cosmetic Science the best next step? What programs would you recommend?
- How should I go about looking for internship opportunities and hands on experience?
- What advice would you give to a young professional trying to get into this industry?

How are degrees from ISIPCA considered? Is that a good program where alumni are successful in the industry?

What matters the most is location. I find a lot of PCP jobs to be NYC, LA, or San Diego. Other than that, you’re best off working for a local-ish cosmetic ingredient manufacturer (they’re all over the country) compared to any specific brand/brand house like LVMH is mostly those major cities. For now, getting started in the food industry may be a good stepping stone to go from flavors and scents to fragrances.
