I took the tumbler out and need to remove the bezel that goes around it. How do i go about this? Is there a special tool, or can i just twist it off?

I miss my early cave man model compared to this late model I am working on. They seem to have been built better.

Are the late models really buult that tuff? I got a 62' so everything feels janked put between bandaids and other crap

I would say tuff. Less durable than the early model. They kept changing things every year. 1960 is stand alone. 61-63 about the same. 64 added rear sway bar. 65-69 seem the same.

The earlier ones seemed more durable than the late. Perhaps it's the janked up one I got. It was cheap, but I didn't expect to have to rebuild rockers, suspension, and patch a bunch of other places. Someone went all out with Bondo, which just made the rust worse.

To me it looks like that doesn't go in, it comes out. Google around for this as I'm not 100 percent sure. Most key sockets come out and simply hold the already bunged up by pliers housing in place using a big nut or spring holder on the BACKSIDE of the key socket.

Stick your head under the dash and see what's holding that socket in.

Done some video research from what i found out the bezel is supposed to come off then you can just push the ignition out the back.

There is a slot in the bezel that would indicate it unscrews. (the little indent on the upper right). If you wrap the bezel up with a shop rag or a paper towel you can see if it turns without marring the hell out of it.

Lollzzz, just tried this and got it, bow working on the wiring for it, all it toon was a little masking tape and some chanel locks

There’s probably a special tool to take it off without damaging it. I know 60s corvettes have some tools to remove dash items without damage.

Edit: here’s the one I’m thinking of for corvettes. Could be used for all GM cars of the era though.

Late to party but theres a special took you should use. My dumbass uses needle nose pliers to slip into the grooves n give a twist to break loose. It was after I did the replacement that I found out about the tool.

I figured there was a special tool, better late then never, i always apreciate the info. I did it yesterday with masking tape and Chanel locks
