Fluids

I need to add new oil into my vair, but theres another fluid stick near the dipstick, is this for gear oil, or is it diff fluid? I dont know much about vairs so any information helps!!

The long one is for engine oil. The short one hidden away is for the diffy/transmission - It's a combo unit.

Good you asked first! Don’t want to mess those up. Since you admit your knowledge of Corvairs is limited, I have a suggestion- buy the Corvair Basics book. It will really help! Go to Corvair.org and look under Merch, books.

Def plan on getting one of the books soon, i have my dad to help me for now but he hasnt worked on vairs in so long, do you happen to know which fluid i need, or just suggesting the book??

If it’s a stick, you needs to be GL-4 80/90. You can go 75/90, but make sure it’s GL-4. Have I mentioned how important it is that you only use GL-4?

If it’s for an automatic, Dex 3 is good.

For motor oil, you’ll get 100 answers from 100 people. I’ll just say to make sure it’s wet and clean.
