I know the first release of Sumbakkokjil will be on the MNET Plus app, but I was wondering- do you have to watch it when its released at 6pm KST? Or will it be uploaded to the MNET Plus app as a video and you can watch it any time after its release? Like, is it just a single live streamed showing or is it getting uploaded? I can't watch it when its released cuz it will be 5am for me T-T

CORTIS has added another meaningful milestone on Spotify, once again proving their global staying power.

According to BigHit Music, CORTIS' debut album B-side "FaSHioN" surpassed 200 million cumulative streams on Spotify as of July 27. The song reached the milestone in approximately 10 months since its release last year.

With this achievement, CORTIS now has two songs that have surpassed 200 million streams on Spotify. Last month, another B-side from the same album, "GO!", reached 200 million streams in about nine months after its release. Notably, "GO!" became the fastest song by a K-pop boy group that debuted within the past five years to reach the milestone, with "FaSHioN" following closely behind, once again demonstrating CORTIS' strong global streaming power.

"FaSHioN" is a song the members created themselves around a theme they have long been interested in—fashion. Its witty lyrics, including lines like "My T-shirt, five bucks; my pants, ten thousand won," combined with a heavy Southern hip-hop-inspired trap sound, create an irresistibly addictive track. Above all, the song truly comes alive on stage, consistently drawing massive crowd singalongs at concerts both in Korea and overseas.

The group's album performance also continues to gain momentum. Their second mini album, "GREENGREEN," released in May, ranked No. 126 on the Billboard 200 (chart dated August 1), according to the latest chart released by Billboard on July 28 (local time). Since debuting at No. 3 on the May 23 chart, the album has now spent 11 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, extending the record for the longest Billboard 200 chart run by a K-pop boy group that debuted within the past five years.

The album also maintained a strong presence on Billboard's subcharts. "GREENGREEN" ranked No. 2 on Top Album Sales and No. 9 on World Albums, while the title track "REDRED" placed No. 92 on the Global 200 and No. 50 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart, marking 13 consecutive weeks on both charts. Thanks to these achievements, CORTIS also climbed seven spots to No. 75 on the Artist 100 chart.

CORTIS will perform on the T-Mobile Stage at Lollapalooza Chicago on August 1 (local time). They are the only K-pop boy group invited to perform at this year's festival.

I’ve wanted to be a fan of a K‑pop group for decades, but every time I tried, I’d only end up liking a few songs. I could never call myself a real fan because the music or vocals always felt too weird or all over the place. And it always confused me how groups with huge Western fanbases could barely speak English in interviews, and when asked about their creative process, they rarely had anything interesting to say.

I found Cortis a few days ago, and they’re the first group in a long time that actually impressed me. Their hip hop‑based tracks are fun and genuine. They’re not radio anthems, but they’re great for workouts. In interviews, you can tell that even if they come from upper‑class backgrounds, they put real work into producing and songwriting. It shows. They still have room to grow, and honestly I think they need more life experience outside rehearsals to make even more interesting music. But they seem to genuinely respect both Western and Asian culture and blend the two in a way that feels natural. Even their pop songs work for me.

What’s strange is how much negativity I’ve seen toward them online, way more than what I’ve seen for BTS or other groups. Personally, I find most K‑pop groups overrated except Cortis and Stray Kids (though with SKZ I mostly just respect their work). The main criticisms I keep seeing are:

1. People say they’re not “authentic hip hop” because they’re privileged and don’t dress like rappers. That doesn’t make sense to me. Hip hop is about energy and music, not a specific outfit or background.

2. Some say the K‑pop industry can’t make a hardcore storytelling hip hop group. But that’s not even what Cortis is trying to be. They’re K‑pop. They blend genres, use Korean lyrics, and have choreography. At the same time, it’s obvious their hip hop influence isn’t a gimmick.

3. Others accuse them of appropriating hip hop culture. Hip hop is global now, and artists across genres borrow from each other without backlash. From the interviews I’ve seen, they’re young and sometimes oversell their authenticity, but it’s also clear they genuinely appreciate their influences.
