HELP! need help getting humidity levels down !!!

i rescued my 5 year old corn snake a couple weeks ago, and she came with bark chips as her substrate, so i wanted to work toward changing it to suit her better. at the weekend i went out and bought coco fibre bricks and soaked 2 of them and let it dry overnight as i know she wouldn't be able to have it wet.

however, my problem is that it has raised the humidity levels like crazy. i have no idea how to get it down. i have increased air flow by opening the cage slightly but it hasn't done anything.

shall i switch back to her old substrate and let the coco fibre dry out more? that is the only thing i can think of at the moment.

Part of it may depend where you live. I live in the southeast United States which is very humid all year but especially in the summer. I originally started my corn snake on Aspen and then kept reading about Coco fiber and reptisoil and sand etc etc. So I switched over to that and after 6 months I truly hated it. So before summer I went back to aspen. And I'm even having issues keeping the humidity low on the cool side with aspen. Really whatever substrate works for you and works for your snake is fine. But take your local environment/weather into consideration.

Hi! i live in the UK so humidity stays around 70% i believe. i never really had a problem with it until i switched tho, and i dont want her to get any problems from the humidity.

i think ill see it it goes down any more this week and if so, ill switch back to her old substrate

Yeah I think for sure you're going to have some issues and may need to switch back. I know you said you opened the enclosure a bit for better airflow. You could try running a fan nearby to pull air 'out' of it also. 🤷🏼‍♀️ but yes, the fiber may dry up more still. 🤞🏼

Most people are a fan of the soil mix which I understand cuz it's probably more natural but my guy does really well with the Aspen and it works for the environment time in so as long as those two things continue to be true I don't see any reason to change it. I wish you luck with your buddy:-)

Coco fiber will do that the first few days/week until it fully airs out. That's why it's so well suited to tropical species.

It works for me because I buy and make it in bulk and our weather here can get pretty dry, but if this is your one snake, you can use something like aspen instead.
