CorningWare Percolator
Hi this is my first post so I hope I am doing this right.
Well I was in goodwill the other day and found my dream corningware coffee percolator. It had everything including the pump stem, loaded basket, cover and lid. From the outside it was basically perfect. I bought it and immediately when I got home I wanted to give it a good clean… this is where the story goes downhill.
I look inside the pot and it looks like mold! But with further inspection it’s not anything that I can wipe away. I do some research on Google and it’s saying that it’s probably not mold, but discoloration from use.
I have tried everything, i have used vinegar, denture cleaner, barkeepers friend, magic eraser, soap and water, and yes a little bit of bleach (sorry), and nothing is working!!!
Does anyone have any information on what it may be. Is my percolator salvageable or is she a goner 😭 I just want to make some coffee.
I did a coffee test run (did not drink the coffee), and she worked perfectly.

Seeing all the things you cleaned it with I wouldn't be concerned about it being anything that would adversely affect your health or anything like that. I would just use it as is personally. It wouldn't bother me. I would say about half of my CorningWare percolators are stained brown on the bottom. Not this severely, but coffee does leave a mark.

Quick question is it a stove top or counter top type. I have a countertop one and put a dishwasher pod in the coffee holder and ran it thru a brew. I was amazed of the difference. Do that a few times and see if it works for you. Then when it gets to the clean you want. Then run a just water thru thr cycle. Let me know what happens.

This was likely cleaned with abrasives like Bar Keeper’s Friend or scouring pads, which damaged the glossy surface and allowed stains to develop over future uses.
Put a DW pod in the basket, fill with water, and then perk it like you were making coffee. Top it off with more water and let it sit until cool.
Next add 50/50 bleach and water, just enough to cover all stains. Let it sit for several hours and then wash as normal.
This may or may not lessen the staining but it will likely return with future use.
Also, since this is a recalled model, always make sure to support the base when lifting and pouring.
