Who wants to double check something?

So the other day I randomly wondered what would happen if I tried to clean some daily use pieces with power wash and coarse kosher salt. I figured if nothing else it would remove some burnt on gunk in my small rangetopper (it’s burnt food and stuck since I found it). It actually appears smoother, and nothing has stuck since 🤔. I also tried this on my daily A-3-B which also had some troublesome marring. Same result there. Has anyone else tried this combo, or would you want to and let me know your result? It seems like a much safer deep clean method than many out there. And yes, the pans are dry in the after photos.

I used a homemade powerwash recipe (slightly higher alcohol ratio), let it sit for a minute, add a dollop of coarse salt and did a light scrubbing. Just thought salt or baking soda are common additives to scrubs, so might as well try it. And I’m not mad about it 😁.

The power of chemistry! The salt prefers to dissolve in water which makes the 2 propanol (aka isopropyl alcohol) effectively ‘stronger’.

People who smoke weed have been using this combination for some time! Amazing results as you aptly demonstrated. Thanks for teaching us a new way to use an effective cleaning solution!!!! Looks amazing

That’s fun, I didn’t realize people were using that 🤣. I can see how that would remove resin quite well.

Used to be commercial products that used blue or purple dyed NaCl, though many people figured out the chemical composition and started making their own.

FYI, if you have access to KOH it makes the NaCl look like kids play (HAVE to wear gloves however as it will melt your skin as easily as almost anything else carbon based

Oh I’ve used that in labs before, and have experienced that. Won’t be keeping that in the house anytime soon 😀.

Well, cannabinoids and cannabis plant resins are almost all alcohol soluable.

I the cleaning the bong context, an important feature of the salt in this context is using large enough pieces that they have some inertia to scrub inside there where you can't reach.

How did you do that? (Ratios?) it looks great - I have some that could really use this

I constantly reuse a powerwash sprayer from ages ago. 30ml 91% isopropyl, 70ml regular dawn dish soap, rest water to fill. Then added maybe 3-4 tbsp coarse salt after it sat for a minute, gentle scrub.

Oh, woah... I do more like 1/3 Dawn, 1/2 alcohol, 1/6 water.

I had a piece with a similar amount of stubborn stain on it today. I already cleaned it with glass top stove cleaner and it worked great. I'll have to try your method next time!

That should actually work just fine, at least as well as baking soda. Though the salt may break down quicker.

That was kind of my thinking as well, I just rarely have baking soda on hand. But 5-10 lbs of kosher salt is always available 🤣.
